Group Functions

Ok, I've been in a few nation wars and other fights and one thing that I've noticed is lacking is a fast way for a leader without the benefit of voice command software to give targeting orders. I suggest that there be a key or something that allows the leader to either mark a target or make every member of his group select that person as his target. Would help out people enormously as no-one can fight effectivly when typing.

Another function would be a rally that sends a message to everyone to rally to him and wither selects the leader him/herself or selects something the leader has selected (such as an asteroid) to help people gather at the one point.

A function for the leader to set nav points for the group would be good too, possibly to initiate a group warp as well.

Finally some quick keypress for common group messages, such as "Run away!!", "Gaah!", "You Idiot!", "I said fit guns not mining lasers!", "I hate you all" etc.

i can't find it in the suggestion's list but there's been discussion about target assignment/ownership within groups before. only reference i can find for now (and admittedly, i'm lazy), is this image i had contributed to the discussion:

it visually shows how group members are linked to their current targets.

a new ui would be required, though, for assigning targets to others. it could be as simple as the sector pilot list ('u') in two columns: left is group members, right are targets with their relative distance. the group commander drags lines (connect the dots!) between group and target pilots to assign targets.

perhaps an automated group announce could also notify the group. something like:

group commander assigns target "name" to "member"

Ah, grouping in VO... I was going to write a suggestion post about it for so long time.

Let's start with obvios stupid things about current grouping system:

1. "/me" is working in every kind of chat except for group chat.
2. Group leader can't kick group members.
3. Group leader can't pass leadership to someone else
3a. Unlike *ahem* some other MMORPGs *ahem* if group leader goes AFK, group leadership is not changed. So if group needs to invite more people, it has to reform
4. Unlike same other MMORPGs, if I accidentally disconnect, I am kicked from group. It also means that if I am in some group mission, it is not aborted, but it is just screwed

As for marking targets -- if Himo joined some veteran combat group, he would know that there is actually possibility to shout current target to group chat (this is done via aliases and binds). But really, marking somehow a target on radar or showing some special sign over it (or near it's name in sector list) would be great. There should be a selection of such signs (can't resist from pointing to other MMORPGs, like WoW)

And of course we need some kind of raid groups, which could unite several groups in one unit. For example, escort mission actually consists of 2 groups -- defenders and traders. So why not to call these groups "defenders" and "traders" and not to show them as a raid group?

/alias groupTarget "say_group Target %target%"
/bind = groupTarget

yeah we're all using that. but that's not the point here.

Yeah I've never heard of those binds, but as people say thats not really the point..
