Request For Comment: Escort Faction Requirements

Jul 06, 2007 momerath42 link
We're trying to decide whether to include a requirement of -600 standing with the *destination* faction of an escort mission. On the one hand, it prevents you from accidentally taking a mission to a station where you wont be able to dock. On the other hand, it prevents you from using escort missions to raise your standing with destination factions that you can't dock with (and therefore raise your standing with by other means).

Being the only means to raise faction standing for one of the non-nations, I'd hate to see there be a requirement of -600 standing for the destination.

Perhaps a warning popup asking someone if they really want to take the mission to a place where they'll most certainly get shot at instead?

mom, one of my alt was kos xang-xi and the only way to restore faction was the escort mission from pelatus.

if there's a minimum of -600, it means others in this situation will never recover xang-xi.

Why not just some sub-faction bot sectors near the stations. Having to kill multiple guardians and assaults would be far better than escort missions.

I'm doing escorts with Tunguska destination since months, when I screwed up my standings with them. I never had a problem in Tung station sectors: I can dodge the SF easily, while waiting for the heavy moths to dock. It's the CONVOY that has to dock at the hated station, not yourself. Your duty in an escort mission is... well... to escort it during the flight, not to dock with them at the end.

Don't remove the only way to recover a -600 or worse standings, unless you provide beforehand an alternative procedure to regain the lost standings.

If you're so eager to protect the clumsy, put that requirement ONLY for escorts ending in Itani, Serco or UIT stations. You can recover nation (and para-nation, in case of UIT) standings by other means anyway.

I think we can take for granted that alternative methods of recovering your -600 standing will be provided, ince the new faction system is in place. If we are indeed supposed to be able to recover from that.

From an in-canon perspective, being able to escort traders to places that hate you is a bit peculiar. Earth is not the best analogy to space, but I'm thinking you would rarely be given any kind of jobs that would take you into a country where you will be arrested. If your criminal status is know to your employers, which I assume that it is, in the case of the Escort missions. (If it is not, it would be even more peculiar not to offer the mission, as there would be no reason not to.)

So, I support this idea.

I would find it even stranger if a country who hates you would allow you to be hired to guard something of theirs, so logic-wise it shouldn't be possible.

So I'd prefer it if yes, you couldn't take these missions. Of course, eventually other methods to regain standing must be introduced. We always talk about people having to feel the consequences of their actions, and blowing up their faction with anyone should be one of these instances.

So please, include the requirement.

as long as you are not able to figure who defended himself shooting the other and who struck first there has to be one way to regain standing. it is not bear the consequences when some arsehole attacks you.
