I'd rather just have a Trident, thanks.

Either allow a cruising speed of 100m/s or give turbo for 130m/s and I'd say a cool 500k with the shields cut down to 50% (25,000).

I'd rather there be a 100cu gap between the Moth and Trident than have the same, seems a waste to me.

Nevermind the stats, the name is worthy.

Whoops Nevermind.

with the total amount of zero (0) weapons? What will it spam, cargo crates?

Kick the speed down to 25 and up the turbo to 130. It is after all a luxury vessel:)

Here is a different concept for the Avarice:

I think that heavy cargo handling is needed. Perhaps trade off speed and some armor for thrust and cargo space.

Armor: 18,000
Cargo: 300 cu
Weapons: 2 large
Mass: 20,000 kg
Thrust: 2000 N (Make a 300,000 kg load handle like a 100K regular moth)
Spin Torque: 20 Nm
Max Speed: 50 m/s
Turbo Speed: 130
Cost: 500,000

First, it's Itani Hyde, not skin. Second, I support this only because it would be a truly massive credit sink. Not sure about the shields, though.

Have you tried flying a fully loaded XC? I think for now 200cu storage is fine.
Mar 24, 2009 Dr. Lecter link
I flew a fully loaded XC last night, to collect what another fully loaded XC dropped when it suddenly exploded.

300 cu with less speed, more armor, more thrust, and a much higher cost seems like a good idea. It would be great for tempting people to move large amounts of expensive, heavy items with a high profit potential: adv rails, for example.

I don't think player owned ships should have shields it flys in the face of what a convoy ships should be which is vulnerable.
Mar 24, 2009 PaKettle link
Dr Lecter gets the idea perfectly. The Avarice is intended to be a big juicy target. I suggested the shields because of the constant damage this ship will take on almost every run. Normal armor works too but the repair bill...

Nor do I intend this ship to be availible to just any trader - only those who are truly filthy rich. I am wondering if adding a badge and requiring it for purchase might be of interest? Say a billionaire badge ?

The extra cargo space would allow a much more lucrative haul for the pirates. 300 adv.rails is a haul worth the effort isnt it?

A "big juicy target" ship would be excellent, but not so much in VO's current state... It would just hide in nation space in today's Vendetta Online...

Good idea/concept in any case, I support the shields. Maybe make it so they can only recharge, and slowly, when not in turbo.

I disagree with changing the shields if it is ever put in game and the devs let it have shields. the standard for dropping shields is a Rag with 2x Mega Posis or 2x Swarms, 80 swarms stacked do 76000 worth of damage.

The badge requirement is a good idea though, maybe Trade 4...I suggest that because it is the highest trade badge currently available.

"It would just hide in nation space" this I also disagree with, I take Moth XCs and Mining Moths through Grey all the time, I cant be the only guy who does.

I agree with this. The shields bit came as a surprise though. I also don't know if its all that possible. If you could give it a turret or two, that would be great. (Gauss, not heavy gat. Heavy gat would be cheating, almost)

TGFT and other major trade associates would most likely stay in nation-space with a sucker like this. It might be best to nix Axia as the nation who sells and instead sell only in grey space.

Also, 50k might be a little too much in the way of shields... very similar to a Trident is it not?

"TGFT and other major trade associates would most likely stay in nation-space with a sucker like this"

some probably would, but I still think that many would take it through grey. the easiest way to avoid strictly nation trading would be for leaving nation space to turn a big enough profit that it is worth it...(but that is a whole different thread)

Ships that carry more cargo, but at the price of defenses promote trade in safe areas.
Mar 25, 2009 Dr. Lecter link
The problem with this size of ship, and perhaps of the XC, is that it makes the smaller margins of the safe, in system or in nation space, trading worthy of a trader's time. If you can haul 300 cu at a time, it matters a lot less that your profit per cu is half what you could make by putting everything at risk. Just with an XC and the right system, I can make several million credits per hour, in almost complete safety. Do it for a couple hours while doing something else, and I needn't trade for a long, long time.

For those wishing to make big trade runs, I like the idea I proposed in the "AI Drones" thread: allowing player financed convoys between Nation and Grey/UIT and Itani/Serco, that would dump any profit, leave any loss, and place many costs on the player. It avoids entirely the risk that players will play it safe, while allowing them to reap truly immense rewards for risking much.
