Behemoth DEFENDER pocket capship

Relates to Ineubis Jackal (Corvette-class Behemoth) and Proposal: pocket-capships TEST combat

So, imagine your favourite plot/scenario and faction. Like, due increased losses on convoys, where preferential target are allways the moths, it was proposed a quick adaptation of the heavy miner to defend trade convoys:

Behemoth DEFENDER pocket capship (MkI for comparison)
3 turrets, now capable of gauss cannons mk.II (own power cell)
Price: 180,000c (60,000c)
License: 9/5/7/-/-
Armor: 70,000 (20,000)
Cargo: 20 CU (120)
Weapons 2L 1S (2L)
Mass: 35,000 kg (20t)
Thrust: 600 N (500)
Turbo Thrust: 1000N (900)
Spin torque: 20.0 Nm (19.0)
Max speed: 65m/s (65)
Turbo speed: 170m/s (160)
Turbo energy: 50/s (50)

Considerations:
-No shields... (yet?), but 3.5x armour
-Same turrets/frame/ports as existing ones (mk.I/heavy miner)
-Must be able to keep same pace as normal moths, but also reduce speed to drag fire / fight foes, then speed and and catch convoy.

-as a distant wish, 1 Large rear-facing port... proper to deploy mines and missiles against pursuers.

Good one, lacter... keep posting... and next time don't forget to correct my grammar, spellzings...

It needs some trade/mining requirement. also, there are no ships in the game that have more than 5 ports and are player controlled. so, if you have a 4 grid cost weapon in each port, you are using 24 grid total. the drain should also be a bit higher as it moves faster than a standard moth.
Dec 21, 2009 Alloh link
It was proposed with 3 ports, as a heavy miner moth (2L 1S). And slower than a Aeolus Light (170//175). With the extra weight provided by extra armour it should behave as a normal moth with light load, only faster while turbo.

Maybe makes it drains 51 or 52 while turboing, so infiturbo is almost required...

What reqs for trade/miner, since it carries 20cu, less than a Revenant (22/26cu)

the Aeolus also has fewer ports and less armor, the thing with 6 ports is that someone using the turrets will end with a Nuet II as you run out of grid. the heavy miner only have 1 turret, which avoids this issue.as for the trade/miner req. 1/1 would be the minimum as you can't get much in the way of cargo space with less than that, but if you haven't used any that is a lest as heavy as a taur you will likely have issues flying this ship so, 4/4 might work better. also, the price might be a bit low; an XC is 150k and this thing is only 30k more. so if you are going for a pocket cap ship if should be expensive e.g. 300~500k. this will also off set the fact that this ship has more HP than the SCP.

Sure, implement it, what does anyone care? Just make it as expensive as all Hell.

This thing would get raped like a 13 year old girl around Roman Polanski.

Lecter... what the hell is with you and the rape? seems to be on your mind quite often.

Do you know WWII north atlantic Uboat vs Convoy war evolution?

For every change in technology, another one evolved. The "armoured merchant ship" was some of initial replies after the "happy times", when convoys were not properly defended.

Also, the turrets/ports setup is no change on how it is implemented today. You can get a mk.I moth with 2 large guns and 3 turrets, and turrets does not drain from main power cell while shooting. At least I did not noticed, even turboing full and 2 turrets shooting. This is the usage of this moth, keep pace with convoy and defend SMALL convoys with gauss.2 turrets, missiles and mines, both with players or bot-only. Just like an Pocket Battleship.

Price tag and anything else is being discussed, I will edit post as idea evolves...

This defender has as much ports as heavy miner (so can hold a cargo spoofer and become a trap), turrets as a mk.I does, and is slower than a light model, and since heavier, less maneuverable and slower to accelerate than other moths, only final turbo speed is higher.

And remember TURRETs are not regular ports, so this is not 5/6 ports, but (2L 1S 3T).

A Q ship this is not.

Seriously, put it in game, see what we do to it.

Atice: that it seems to make you uncomfortable is reason enough for me.

I like the jackal better, I think. More battle moth.

Agreed ShankTank.

This ship is a fail.

I'd perfer the Jackal to this thing. Shields > More Armor

I am just wondering... Apart from the armour buff, what does it do that cannot be solved by a regular Behemoth?
At three times the price, you can just as well have three Behemoths defending. Lifes are cheap, dev time implementing armour buffs are not.

So, the rape things aside, that seems to be strictly a Dr. Lecter thing (who would have guessed...:)), I agree with the good Dr. Why bother?

As now:
-Shields are not available on player ships.
-Armour requires no change on real model. Its a simple variable that gets decreased with hits.
-Since no +new+ port/turret/stuff, NO change on visual model
-Engines/Thrust are just like armour, an amount on a var.

This would offer some new tatics, does not unbalance anything, requires much shorter programming time than the Jackal, which requires severe coding to add shields on dynamic model, animations for shields (3D objects/events), so on...

I also wish a killer uber-moth with shields and 4L ports, and why not choose using shields or stealth on Uport of my hog5 while docked on my station. In the future.

The Defender is the logical evolution on convoy runs. Cheaper than a capship, it's not the ultimate killer, but faster to build and expendable while seriously enhances small convoys protection. If properly handled, can save the convoy! (but not allways as should!)

expendable while seriously enhances small convoys protection

Well, you're half right.

the real question though is will this crate some monsters on closet but thats where candies are?

peytros wins thread, pls to lock nao OKAY? kthxbi

Lecter, if you understand the ramble, please explain...

Alloh, you did not request shields (as I see it).
Apart from that, I still do not see it. In order to create this monster, you would have to kill its cargo space (as I believe you have, to 20).
Thus, nobody but NPC's would use it as almost everything is superior to escort with, The NPC's are crap-lame at escorting anyway and already has the heavily armoured Behemoth. I am sorry, I do not see it.

That said, I don't want the Jackal, as a matter of fact I couldn't care if we ever get cap-ships. If that is your oyster, go play Eve and get a Dreadnought (or whatever they have.) I like being a fighter Jock.

The moth shell is not meant to go to war, period.

Give players access to Tridents.
