Faction Standing.

Serco and Itani: Lower the standing significantly for proc/bulk proc missions and raise the standing points for Combat missions along the borders. Reason being, theres a war on. Undertaking combat missions for your nation displays loyalty far above taking a nearly 0 risk bulk proc.

UIT: High standing for bulk procs here is fine, the UIT are after all traders. However, I would think that given the nearly 0 risk... that raise bulk procs to between 500 and 1000 cus.

As it stands as soon as you have a Moth you can just rake in faction points, I think you should have to work for it.

In war supply lines are everything......

increasing the combat rewards and decreasing the bulk awards accross the board isnt a bad idea tho....

Doing proc/bulk missions are a pain in the ass, and you do have to work at it... especially since I lose them all the damn time.

I have trade 18, and it's all proc/bulk missions, just for faction gain .. and I'm still at trade badge IV. (over a span of almost 3 years)

So, no. And I don't participate in "border wars". Nor should my play style be forced into your concept.

I think increasing faction standing changes (including killing an opponant in BS, as well as positives) should affect standing more, but... increase the standing rewarded for procurement missions the closer you get to Deneb or grey, and decrease the standing rewarded the farther you get into Nation space. Nearly all UIT space borders grey, so the procurement would reward good amounts for UIT space with this system. Also, increases in standing for providing for the supply line would be addressed, while less dangerous missions would reward slightly less standing.

If you're talking about advantages/disadvantages for faction gain based on what faction a player is, I disagree. We need more differences for joining a specific nation other than faction standings to start, but this isn't the way to go about it.

Thread hijack: A few ways to go about the above.

Perhaps a head start for each combat license for Serco, a boost similar for Itanis but in light weapons, and a boost for trade for UIT. Maybe differing amounts of money rewarded for the optional training, too... more for UIT (traders).

I apologize for getting off topic.

Interesting ideas to which I agree are needed. I'm just not clear enough on what the devs are doing for the faction redux to know if this is even relevant. So +1 to the general idea on principle.

PaKettle's comment is crucial. Supply lines, or military logistics, is decisive for war outcome.

Complementing the idea, we need also some military logistics missions, requesting stuff like pharmaceuticals or turrets, to near frontlines. OT, but related, should give good combat and trade rewards.

where exactly does it say in the bulk proc mission that you are supporting the war effort?

oh wait it doesn't

point invalidated.

Good point Peytros. I would not object to a high faction reward for bulk procs with a high probability of attack, that were specifically for the war effort to the front lines. Shipments of items specifically related to the war effort.

"Doing proc/bulk missions are a pain in the ass, and you do have to work at it... especially since I lose them all the damn time. "

Given that most Bulk Procs are in system or in nation, you're doing something wrong. If I have a record of never losing a cargo ship in a voy I'm escorting... (as lousy as I am at combat)... then you're simply doing them wrong. Or lying.

Bulk proc missions through Itani nation space are a boring walk in the park. The worst thing you have to worry about are ion storms filled with hive, and we all know how to avoid those.

+1 for raising the faction reward for war combat, especially for non-nationals.

I also think that Itani and Serco standing should be mutually exclusive - You shouldn't be able to be POS with both.

Only in VO time is that phrase any kind of true.

"You shouldn't be able to be POS with both."

Let me fix that for you:

You shouldn't be able to have positive standing with both at the same time.
Oct 13, 2010 ryan reign link
Nor should you be able to continually switch sides, maintaining admired to PoS with the desired side before switching back.
Oct 13, 2010 tarenty link
I'd say you should have a maximum of -200 if you have POS with the opposite faction.
Oct 13, 2010 Dr. Lecter link
Max of -600; there will be no docking with Itani stations by anyone who is Serco POS, and vice versa.
Oct 13, 2010 tarenty link
Eh, fair enough.

Don't allow anybody who has ever had admire+ with itani or serco after the redux to get higher than +900 ever again, and every time you build to admire after having admire with the other side you cut 100 off your max standing, down of course to a total of 500 down from POS.

Never allow a serco to purchase valks/IBG, and vice versa for the prom/SVG.
