Ultra Charge Powercell.

May 16, 2011 DennisBeekman link
I think that mentoring 40 players just to get the freaking Ultra Charge Powercell is to much.
This powercore is essential to surtan activities but i cannot currrently get it as i haven't mentored any players.

- I understand that i need todo pvp and kill other players to get the railgun wich is a pvp weapon.
- Needing todo mining missions to get the mining moth makes sense aswell.

But what does mentoring have todo with that powercell ?
I realise you wish to push player towards mentoring others, but there will be some players ho can't or won't mentor anyone...

I am autistic myself, wich isn't a huge handicap when playing VO but mentoring is not going to happen as my social skills are simply not good enough.
For that reason i will never be able to get the ultra charge powercell..

I think this should be changed to level 6 combat or something...

All the ultra cell is, is a fast charge cell with an extra 50 energy capacity and 10 kg less mass. Not a very big difference. To which activities is the extra 50 energy so essential? I almost never use the ultra charge (I haven't done any mentoring either) and haven't encountered any hindrance from only using the fast charge.

As for not being able to get it, that is incorrect. You cannot get it from the station, but often players who do have access to the ultra cell are willing to sell it to you. Try contacting somebody from the [EMS] guild, like Ninjr. Alternately, if you are willing to engage in piracy, you can sometimes find NPC convoys (or even players) carrying large amounts of ultra charge cells. That is where I've gotten the vast majority of the ultra cells I've used. I've only actually paid for maybe ten, but have looted several hundred. Remember, the cargo scanner is your friend :)

So do this:
/msg "Ninjr" hi, can I buy some ultra charge power cells?

I have no way of knowing for certain, but I imagine there are at least a few people in the game with 40 good mentor ratings who didn't actually mentor 40 people. You know, it's not so difficult to get your mentor ratings if you have two computers and can create dummy accounts, or a friend who'll help you do the same...

The UC exists in large part so that people will mentor new players. This is a Good Thing.

Ninjr sells UCs for less than the price of FCs. As has been mentioned, this is a good way to get them.

The whole "mentor 40 players" thing is ridiculous and it encourages cheating. However, I sell Ultra Charge Batteries... so please keep it as it is.

Perhaps if there was an equal but alternate task that would also unlock UC's ?

Well, the weird thing is that mentoring is pretty limited, I've been doing combat training for ages, but unless I start at level 2 or 3 (which is a terrible time to start combat training) There's no way I'm getting a mentor credit (Still need 14 to be able to buy them)

It's not a big problem, I know. I can buy them from folks all around. Still, a better mentor-mentee system would be nice. Maybe an ingame VO craigslist? offering services, the person who receives the service can then right a review, 1 per player.

I don't have any mentor ratin' and yet, i came into possession of 150 of 'em.
Ye can easily buy 'em either from carebears who got da mentor badge, or could just exercise the honest craft of a privateer and break some pinatas to get 'em.
I can sell ye some too, 5k/unit regardless yer standing is.

Take all ye can me 'earties!

Actually, this is fairly easy to attain even without cheating. It just takes some dedication to helping out. And that's time consuming I know! But that's why it's an exclusive item, and only a few people have got it.

I got mine by no means of cheating. But it's a good limit, because it forces time and effort into helping others (or cheating to get it, less reputable way). I actually found myself by then end of it being more tolerant and patient.

So leave it be, it's a good marathon to get, I just wish more items in the game were more like this.

As someone with more than one account I contemplated this at one point, and even got so far as registering a char with my main for mentoring...then gave it up after 2 minutes as way more trouble than the uc is worth. On the rare occasion I feel like using one it's much easier to just announce on 100 that you're in the market for some...

Actually, you can't mentor trial accounts. $10 per 3 points.
May 18, 2011 ryan reign link
That's odd, at least three of the people I mentored were still on trial accounts.

Mentoring trial accounts used to be possible but that is no longer the case. I don't remember when the change was made but it was probably less than a year ago.
