Built-in Hive Radar Stealth for Raptors

Raptors... no straight-up stat buff will ever fix that mammoth of a flare-catching, energy weapon-gobbling profile. What they need is more utility and situational use, because they'll never be a favorite dueling/clean-sector skirmisher.

The free storm radar is nice, but a cormaud with one in an addon slot can still out-fight and out-chase a Raptor. Here's what I propose, at least for now: give Raptors an interruptable delay-activated radar invisibility against hive ships.

Here's how that would work:
-Entering a sector with hive ships, the hive would act normally and attack the Raptor pilot for one minute.
-If the Raptor pilot shoots a hive bot, the one minute time will restart
-When this one minute timer is not up, the hive bots will ignore the Raptor pilot as though they are radar invisible to them and the hive bots will show up as green dots on the Raptor pilot's radar.

Essentially, this is a Raptor-exclusive situational use, giving it reason to fly every once in a while. They could be used to scout a hive sector, provide informational support in levi fights, or to set up ambushes in ion storms.

+1, it'd cool if bots ignore craptor pilot at all, even without 1 minute timer.

-1 Waste of time

I disagree on the buff issues - the problem is the raptor as spec'd does not really have a role/purpose other then being a damage magnet. Thats why it is nicknamed the craptor.

If it is intended to be a heavy fighter then it needs a triple-ing of its armor (20-25k) and two large ports

Otherwise its armor and thrust should be increased to bring it on par with the hog.

In any case until it gets a sever increase in its armor and/or a big bump in its strafing and/or it is resized it will remain a useless and disappointing electronic fantasy.

The point in the end is a role needs to be defined for it and its specs need to be adjusted until it is capable of doing its job well. No amount of special gadgets and what not are ever going to make it a serious platform for most players.

>>>>>> Devs.
Please Pick a role for it. Stock up a bunch of beer and pizza. Start play testing and adjusting until the darn thing is actually useful.

-1 to invisibility, radar cloack, no matter how. Makes no sense that a bot is hunting a craptor then suddenly becomes "blind"...

+1 to improve cRaptor as Pirren topic proposes, preferably the AWACS variant, focused in group support. Give all "eletronicrs warfare" to best version, and group extender to all versions. Also replacing 2S ports for 2L seems quite logical for a heavy fighter, the largest!

Seems to me that this statement...

"Essentially, this is a Raptor-exclusive situational use, giving it reason to fly every once in a while. They could be used to scout a hive sector, provide informational support in levi fights, or to set up ambushes in ion storms."

...suggests a perfectly reasonable role for the raptor. A role that is currently unfilled.

Well if you really want to turn it into an awacs type platform then I would suggest it be given the light moth specs to start with including the cargo space and turn it into a decent cargo hauler. Other wise the role you suggest would be better suited for a rag in my opinion.

The point is that the basic ship model needs to be usefull in some manner and the raptor is a poor fighter and a poor hauler. I havent tried it as an interceptor but I am not sure we need a cheapo grey hound.

No gadget/feature or add on is going to change that. Untill the basic raptor model becomes usefull it is a waste of the devs time to keep modding it.

Theres and old saying I am sure you know it - no matter how much you polish a turd it will still be a turd.

OP's raptor sounds useful to me.

So essentially, the Raptor "blends in" after one minute, fooling the IFF of the Hive Bots provided the pilot doesn't shoot. Sounds cool, but should we rename it the Chameleon?

I'd use it, if nothing but for scouting Hive sectors and getting a good look at Hive bots.

-1 to OP's specifics. However, I like the idea of radar stealth being available on at least one ship in the verse. The Raptor looks like a good candidate to me. Pirren's Raptor recommendations along with added radar stealth might make this thing useful.
