Purchase-able Content

Dec 22, 2012 Kierky link
So, I was thinking, rules to set out about purchase-able content.

1. They may not offer any long term reward to any player (such as tridents that are purchasable back)

2. They may offer a one-time bonus, such as:
..Start up credits, say, 5 million [0.99 USD],
..1.5 x Bonus to XP for 24 in-game hours [maybe 2.99 USD],
..One-Time nerfed trident (200,000 Hull Points, no shields, 600cu, only purchasable once, two passenger seats) [15.99 USD]
..Pet Furies! Why the hell not! These would go off! Max 5 furies in space at a time, [0.49 USD each]

3. They may not offer badges, boost XP, faction standing, or large amounts of credits.

I don't know, Discuss!

4. For players who have already licensed up a character and are creating a new one and would prefer to not have to go through the baby steps again an option to buy 5/5/5/5/5 for $10.

5. Nerfed Trident rental (not ownership)- once a better way of killing them is implemented, such as player owned Teradons with buffed max speed to better catch and slay the dragon as it were.

I, for one, would never sub again.

+1 Inevitable. This would kill VO for me for good. I still play/sub VO in part because it avoids all this bull.

They may not offer badges, boost XP, faction standing, or large amounts of credits.

There's two strikes out of four in your #2.

+1 Inevitable. GS would never get another cent of my money if they did this. Ever.

This sort of stuff could be okay for things like kickstarter rewards - limited duration fund-raising events. But having it available as purchasable content anytime is a completely different matter.

These rewards are so bad they aren't even worth the money.

Heh, I didn't say it was a good idea, just suggestions if we were to entertain the concept.

I quit my old mmorpg because they did yhis sort of stuff. If it is even considered, give thought to raising the monthly subscription instead - it is a gutsy move, but may lose fewer players

Itani, UIT, Serco, Greyspace.

$5/month for access to each territory. Players that don't have access can still enter but can't raise their standing above Hate with the relevant territory.

The subfactions are generally problematic to follow this model with so one could argue perhaps divide up the subfactions into smaller per month addon payments. This model would work because it's essentially a raise in subscription but you can customize your subscription to be cheaper if you don't need access to some territories.

-1 TRS. That would mean charging carebears more to play the game than more combative players. I don't think it's a good policy to financially discourage styles of play.

Dammit, I thought I was being so clever to come up with a way of suggesting "charge carebears more" without actually saying it XD

On the other hand, it's only discouraging styles of play because of the way space is setup. If it were more well rounded that kind of thing would be fine.

I like the concept and would purchase just about whatever they offered

Tridents fully built , or just parts etc.
Or perhaps credits for cash

Nothing that would give players and advantage that they can't achieve by time and effort but could byepass some of it with cash if desired

Purchase a fully loaded duplicate alt with same specs as your current character would be nice. Heck I would pay a nice amount for that as not to lose your current achievements.

I don't know about the techinallities as to what could actually be purchase or what benifits but I like the concept of this and it's very popular on the net

WOT has 26,000 players online at anytime of the day always even on New Years eve lol

Quit amazing business model and they spend much more then any subscription level to purchase stuff.

VO is cool, the graphics are very good, but no players stinks

Bring me some players and I'll buy something, or I'll resub.
Let me buy something and try it and I'll check it out again.

Good God start small at least let people buy Avalons or something simple and experiment with the idea some

Let them purchase things they could normally get but don't want to waste time doing that but want to enjoy the use of it.

Sort of like buying time really.
I wanted to start other characters too but never felt like working up the levels so never did it.
Also you lose your items you created like some who have a trident etc. then what ?

Anyhow I like it good idea I've been posting trying to promote something similar myself

But in the end it's about what they really want to achieve and I don't know for sure that they really want more players for sure. I never really asked if that is the case.

In that case making suggestions to increase the player base is mute if they are enjoying the status quo.

I can't say that I really know the answer to that.

1+ to purchasable avalons so I never have to read this again:

[100] <Greenwall> Buying avalons, Pm me!

If you are willing to pay enough rl cash, then odds are some player is willing to provide it. If you are not willing to pay enough rl cash to make it worth it for some player, then vo should not sell it to you either.

Avalons $5 each.

PM me.
