Itani/Serco Monitoring Outposts

Jul 16, 2013 Helena Lycia link
Scenario: Itani scientists use recovered hive technology to generate a permanent ion storm in greyspace near to the Serco border. Then inside that ion storm they build a "Research" station to monitor Serco trade and military traffic through greaypace.

When the Serco government learn of this Itani monitoring station located near their border and that they cannot successfully attack it due to the ion storm they use similar technology to build a barracks station in a permanent ion storm in greyspace near to the Itani border.

In gameplay terms: Both stations would be located 1 or two systems outside of the opposing nation's borders and permanently shrouded in ion storms. They would be guarded by turrets and guards (flying valkyries or vulture guardians rather than regular vults). Only those with high Itani or Serco standing would be allowed to dock at these stations, people with insufficient standing would be treated as hostile and attacked (suggest minimum faction standing of +600, +800 or even +1000 to be allowed to dock) These stations would not appear on the official system maps (as with conquerable stations and the capship station). Perhaps periodically (once a month or more/less frequently) the stations get moved to new sectors so.

Additionally, these stations could be temporarily conquerable, as I suggested in http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/27785

Perhaps there should also be a UIT monitoring station as well but I'm not sure where it would go (from a RP perspective). Maybe UIT want to monitor Corvus and so establish a secret base in Odia?

I like the idea of artificial ion storms and using those to hold systems. Would be cool if you could manufacture them.

This isn't that bad an idea. I however would restrict it to only folk of the nation the station represents with great standing. Nationals with lesser standing should get a warning.

Whenever you look at introducing nationalist-oriented content you have to contend with the undesirable issue of weak faction exclusivity. That's the only barrier I see to content like this working fabulously.

No. Besides, if the UIT can have a station in Odia, then Corvus should have one in Dau, and it should ignore the UIT's anti-docking magic, permitting people who are hated with UIT to dock (and nobody else). But better to just not go there. Stick with the Itani vs. Serco on this one.

Would be cool to have a secret Corvus station in Dau that moves around

+1 Snake. Make it like a something like a pirate hive queen: a Corvus cap ship (trident or better yet a connie) with a significant escort of Hounds, Mauds, and CVs. Once the escort has been terminated, the shield strength should be reduced to more easily droppable levels.

The Corvus Cap would only respawn X hours after it was killed; randomly spawns in an unmonitored sector of Dau, Nyrius, or Azek; and should drop some decent loot when popped -- maybe low level trident components. Anyone entering the sector who is not both -600 or lower UIT and +800 or higher with Corvus would be attacked by the Cap and its escort; anyone meeting those requirements would be friendly for the cap/escort, but be given a message that only truly nefarious pilots are allowed entry/docking rights.

Pilots who are POS Corvus and KOS UIT should be able to take a Corvus mission to gain access to a radar/map indicator showing where it is at any given time (if not dead and waiting to respawn), and then be able to dock with the ship, R&R there for free like in a conquerable station, and sell loot to it at some decent price. Opposing missions should spawn in UIT barracks stations to Hunt Down Rogue Pirate Clan, which has been detected somewhere in the core systems, likely hiding in an unmonitored sector.

Dr. Lecter, I think the idea of a Corvus "hive" is interesting. I can see one possible flaw though. If a Corvus hive ship existed then those who would normally be treated as friendly by the hive & escorts who choose to attack it should lose Corvus standing (or gain UIT standing, or both) otherwise those people would have an unfair advantage to mine the hive/escorts for drops.

+2 to already proposed "Pirate Station" in a capship, preferably a new, very large one... but basedin grayspace!
