Revenue Idea - Rent-A-Dent in app/online purchases

I think some players would like an in app purchase option like this...

Create a mission in m7 called Rent-A-Dent which will put one dent in the station at m7 if you have purchased Rent-A-Dent credits with a name like "Rent-A-Dent 1234". This dent has a 5 hour game time limit including the log off timer unless the dent is destroyed or returned to m7 at which time the 5 hour timer stops and will resume when you launch it again.

Rent-A-Dents are not eligible for insurance. After 5 hours, an NPC captain will pilot the dent to m7 and unload your cargo, turrets and weapon to your station inventory, if it makes it to m7. In the meantime, you get to enjoy an owner key for a dent until your time is up or it is destroyed.

Maybe each five hour Rent-A-Dent credit could cost 99 cents or 12 credits for $9.99. If possible, maybe long term subscribers could get 20 credits for $9.99 through the website. Purchasing a Rent-A-Dent credit also makes the entrances to m7 visible as long as you have Rent-A-Dent credits remaining if you have not built a reactor.

It would be nice if after 5 hours if we could pm the npc dent captain that is taking the dent back to m7 with commands like "jettison" or "renew" to either jettison the cargo at the dents current location or renew the Rent-A-Dent 5 hour lease and using another credit without having to go back to m7.

Other revenue ideas that could be implemented are to allow items some items like RB's to be purchasable for 99 cents each, IBAs for 4.99 each and the milinar master computer system for $19.99 (numbers and items are just suggestions, with items being put in inventory at the station they would have been build at).

This is to my mind effectively Pay to Win. Besides which, the question becomes is it five continuous hours or 5 hours of game play?

Further, as described, this suggestion would require that the M7 station location be revealed to all players rather than those who have built a reactor.

Additionally, assuming the person renting the trident is using it to build, having this undermines the community building aspect that occurs in guilds that support each other in building as well as individual players offering their tridents to help support builders.

Finally, if I can shell out $1 every time I could use a trident, then why in the heck would I bother going through the pain and suffering of actually building one?

Now if you're going to suggest that for $0.99 I can have the Playboy Bunny decal painted on my trident, then sure. I'll +1 that bad boy all day long.

The current ideology behind In-App Purchases is that they don't give you anything. They only give you access to use things. You still have to be able to afford or otherwise get your hands on the items in question. Being able to rent-a-dent not only undermines this, but it also undermines the recent change that requires a person to have a premium subscription in order to even be able to pilot a trident.

Your suggestion is quite simply Pay-to-Win, since it allows people to leapfrog the work you would otherwise have to put into building one yourself. Plus the whole point of restricting what you can do with a Lite- or Free- account is to incentivize upgrading to a Premium subscription.

If you want to rent a trident, then contact someone who already owns one and negotiate a business arrangement.

True, much like the current ideology behind level/faction/mission gear/ship/weapon unlocks is that they don't give much if any advantage that cannot be easily overcome by sufficient twitch skill on the part of a lower level opponent.

And just like that obsession with pure twitch balance disincentivizes any substantial investment of time in VO by players, the current ideology behind IAP ensures that IAP will never generate significant revenue. Will some people pay to have different virtual spraypaint on their virtual spaceship? Sure. But most people aren't quite that dumb.

This is not pay to win, it's pay to shortcut a bunch of PvE grinding while presenting a big, fat, tempting target for other players to hunt, shoot, and kill. It's the kind of thing that might actually generate revenue without making people cry about how they lost a fight only because the other guy paid for HAXZOR GUNZ!11eleveneleven

I don't see any win to renting a dent or buying small parts. This is more like pay to not to shoot bots endlessly for months on end. It's not like there are lots of dents online and available all that often. And, revenue is a good thing for a software company.

Any time you can pay real money to avoid having to work for your toys in-game it's pay-to-win.

i see no reason why some limited form of trident rental is a bad thing. It would generate more money for GS, provide higher amounts of badly piloted tridents lumbering through space... whats wrong with that?

-1 people should work for their tridents. Not pay for them. This is not a pay-to-win game. The only thing I see being okay to pay for would be decals and other decorations.

What would you even do with a Trident once you rented one?

Get blown up by a furie squad 5 minutes after renting it and be thanked for donating to GS

Better idea: allow Trident owners to rent their tridents out for real money :)

How about if they pay in time so we can get that huge chunk of our lives back? ;)

-1. If you want to use real world money to get stuff, go to a mall. This is a game, and using out of game money to get in-game stuff is cheating, plain and simple.
