I see a lot of instances where new players get help with installing plugins. Create a mechanism where players that help a new player get set up with using plugins can earn a mentor point.

Imo this is far more helpful to new players than helping them get their mining license up a level or other such nonsense.

The game should be able to tell if a player has used a plugin or not and creating a mentor relationship prior to using a plugin and then rating after a successful install should count towards mentor points.
