Ship buying for Lite and F2P

Mar 25, 2015 csgno1 link
In general I think the crystal system is fine, but I want to make a minor suggestion. The Centurian and the Centurian MkII should be available without crystal purchase, like the bus is now.

The reason for my suggestion is that I've recently run into some new players who venture off into grey space and are impoverished by getting blowed up enough times so they are stuck trying to get out of grey in a bus. At least having a Centurion MkII gives them a better shot at escaping, and also the ability to stick around in grey a bit if they want to explore more without loosing all their crystal.

The reason I suggest the Centurian is because it's not overly-used, not good for hauling, not great for fighting, and not exactly a sitting duck. I think the MkII has a lower drain than the basic Centurian, if that is not true then I amend my suggestion to not include the MkII.

+10 I think all the base model "nweby" ships like the rev mk1 and the centurian should be crystal free

+1 to making the basic Centurion crystal free.

-1 to the centurion mkii.

The basic centurion has lower mass, better turbo thrust, same turbo speed and turbo drain, and over all is a better turbo runner than the mkii.

edit: The basic Centurion may be universally available, someone find me a station that does not sell a basic centurion. You can only buy mk1 model ships at corvus, when you have low corvus standing, and of all mk1 ships, the centurion is the best runner. the basic centurion is a noobs best bet to escape corvus. the next step up in fast is the hog2, and corvus will not sell that to a noob.

-1 why cant they buy more crystal to get the centurian mk1 and support the game??? Or they can full sub. They could also make a friend and ask them to escort them out.

I'm all for making freetards pay for good ships, but charging crystal for the Centurion MkI just seems overly harsh even to me.

Also, Centurion is spelled with an o, not an a. You and csgno1 need to turn your spell-checks back on. :)

@biretak: The idea is to give the f2p a little more to work with at the bottom. Hopefully they will eventually subscribe but if not they will at least hang around and be better targets.

Checking on my mobile device, I see that the EC-104 is crystal free. The EC-104 is good enough for a crystal poor noob.

I suggest that the basic centurion be crystal free at corvus stations only.

I agree with your reasons to restrict this suggestion to the basic centurian only, but I think it should not be limited by location.

I suggested that the basic centurion be crystal free at corvus only, because the only reason to really need a centurion over an EC-104, is to escape corvus. even that much is really throwing a bone to noobs stupid enough to home at corvus.

...which doesn't work so well anymore since the Greyhound got +100N turbo thrust.

even a centurion will not guaranty an escape from corvus, but of all the ships a noob can buy at corvus, the centurion is the best bet. the next best bet is the basic vulture.

hey... i am just trying to throw a bone to noobs stupid enough to run out of crystals while homed at corvus and camped by a pk. i am not really invested in the topic otherwise. my vote is basic cent crystal free at corvus only, or no where at all. the ec-104 is a good ship, and more than good enough for crystal pinching noobs in most other circumstances.

edit: the ec-107 is also crystal free.

Yeah, so are the Axia and Valent 2-port ECs if you need more firepower than the -104 offers.

+1 to zero crystal on the Centurion MkI at Corvus stations. It's a good fighter for early on and most newbs don't even try to fly them because its speed advantages over a bus aren't really obvious to inexperienced players.
