My suggestions would be to firstly make all backgrounds transparent. That includes the background of the center tab especially. Secondly, I'd reccommend that you put all the labels in the "You" box (upper-right corner) on the left.Same thing for the "target information".

I don't like the new meters, tho, but the rest looks great.. with some minor tweaking. Perhaps it could even be user-customisable! YaY!

agreed, I wasn't sure what to do with those meters, but I think it would be nice to have hull up there, so it can be seen quickly while engaged in combat. If you have any ideas fo a stylish way to do it, I'd love to hear them.

The bottom part takes up too much of the screen. What I like about the current HUD is how unintrusive it is. You notice it if you want to, otherwise it is easy to ignore. It reminds me of the HUD in Metroid Prime in that respect. As a matter of fact, the metroid Prime HUD is one of the best displays I have seen in a first person game. I think they mentioned something about custom HUDs before. If so, I would want to make mine like this:

The danger display on the left could easily be replaced with the healthbars of group mates. The gun-type on the bottom right and visor type on bottom left could switch for front and back radars, the target's health could display up top, ship stats on the top right like the way your HUD is designed, and weapons on the right hand side. Maybe we could have a variable display on the top left. When you press O it puts you in "Non-Hostile mode" where it shows your cargo, a health bar, and your bounty. When you press O again you go into "combat mode" where it shows the wireframe like what we have now, displays your health as a bar and with numbers (i.e. 12000/12000) in addition to a percentage. But that's just my vision of an ideal HUD.

I have a question:
Do Vendetta users want a HUD like Metroid's tht is reminiscent of armored suits such as Halo and, well, Metroid; or would they prefer a console similar to my design (perhaps smaller) that is more reminiscent of a cockpit and flight?

It's been said time and time again, the HUD will be customizable later on. I'd imagine that this includes changing transparency, color, removing, adding, and rearranging certain elements. But that's IF the company is still going strong months ahead from now. Keep the suggestions coming though.

Sheean, NICE!! I like yours the best--the idea of having a radar readout's background be the same color as hostility is a good idea.

What are all the blue bars in the middle? Different velocities? Other than that NICE! Fuse that with the roundedness of the existing Vendetta HUD and we're good to go.

Sheeans is nice, but I don't like the "Vector Bars". I've never been in favour of having vector bars, and they'd be hard. Why? Because if you rotate even a little, the vectors change entirely. That means that you ability to read them would be dependant on a steady "up", which we don't have in space. I prefer the "hp bar" from SoundGuy66's mockup to the vector bars.

The vector bars would be fine, but not at the center of the screen. I'd prefer them off to the corners.

Yeah, a hp bar would be nice. But you can now already somewhat see it in the corner of your eye the colour (red, yellow, green) but other than that, a hp bar would be cool too ;)

Vector bars are just so useless that having them there at all offends me. The "speed bar" shows your current estimated speed at last thrust. Vector bars would mean that in a barrel roll, every bar would constantly alternate between both sides.

Rogue, obviously you don't spend much time in physics mode. When I'm backtracking out of 4 or 6, I don't have time to stop or go to arcade mode to realign myself. I should only have to look at the radar, figure out where the wormhole is, and then use the vector bars to make necessary adjustments in my velocity. Vector bars are a must!! It's so aggravating to look at the current "65" and wonder just in WHAT direction that "65" means. Direction is necessary for advanced tactics.

I don't spend much time in arcade mode. And I know these are extremely popular, but in practice would be much more annoying than the current system, so I'm trying to show this.

maybe just a 3D arrow that points where your ship is heading in relation to where your cursor is. Only turns on in physics mode if you have mouselook on.

I agree with sircamps even though I usually play in arcade. If the positions of the vectors were around the center of the HUD, then it would look perfect.

Example: colons ':' or underscores '_' indicate the bars

I was thinking about a new HUD the other day so this thread caused me to get off my arse and do something about it...

compared to the one we have already they look very silly.
