I personally (and probably others, too) had problems when selecting colors from the grid before buying a ship, and never know what I have selected on it.
This is especially true for mobile with well... any screen size, even PC, as i tend to forget the colors locations I like the most.
Could there be some form of indication of the selected ship color, by lets say, adding a thin black rectangle to appear on the selected color.
Basically the exact same thing what is the case how you see the thin black lines around a color, when creating a sector note.
Would it be difficult to add this, for all platforms, or mobile/PC at least?

Basically, the entire UI is in the process of being redone, so things like this are going to be re-worked in much the same way that (for instance) the Character Select menu has changed.

But, yes, noted. It's also very difficult to pick a particular color on a small mobile device, and.. many other known problems.
