Guild Features/Interface

I think having a Guild bank account is a requirement. A corresponding new position of "treasurer" should go with this.

Status: Guild membership should be able to be suspended. When suspended, a member of the guild would not have the guild tag displayed and would not be able to execute any active guild commands. Why would guild membership be suspended? It could be, for example, due to:

Fees: The treasurer should have the ability to impose a one-time fee on guild members, and track who has paid the fee. The treasurer should also be able to impose a percentage tithe to player revenue, that goes into the treasury. (confirmation of these by a council vote would be a Good Idea)

Credit: The treasurer should be able to set a credit limit that guild members can borrow money at, as well as ways to automatically repay the loan.

This could allow players to borrow money from the guild for big purchases like a high-level license, and then maybe 25% of your income from then on goes to paying back the loan. I see guild tithes being in the 5-10% range, which most people wouldn't miss.

Lots of good ideas, but I disagree completely with the "taxes", "fees" and "guild bank account" ones, which are unnecessary bloat to me (just my opinion). I'd rather we have a Guild-owned cargo/outfit hold at stations, it solves the same problems and allows for more possibilities.

And that /guild note or /guild motd proposition needs to be implemented ASAP ! :)

lots of great ideas, i'd love to see these implemented. personally, vendetta is slipping from my interest atm and i really hope the next couple of updates respark that interest :)

the guild bank sounds like a good one, except i can see it being abused. perhaps a "treasurer" as you say should be able to flag members as being able to take from the pot, though anyone should be able to put in, which would be a great way to decide who could take out.

a motd does definitely need to be implemented, i agree. there really does need to be more things like that to allow guilds to get more involved with eachother.

guild wars also sound like a great plan. if anything, there needs to be SOME way to try and create large-scale battles. though a higher player count would help a lot with this in itself.

All these ideas sound great, but unfortunetly, what good is a guild bank account wiith nothing to purchase...no need to buy licenses anymore and nothing costs over 10k unless you buy a rag mk3 fully loaded with swarm missiles and and positron blasters...which a simple vulture mk1 with TPG sparrows could easily blow out of space...But then again we all know that one day soon there will be other things to purchase, capital ships being included. Monhey should have a purpose in this game tho, there should be more things to purchase and maybe even a way to use money to effect the economy, maybe even spying on other guilds, a lil corporate espionage...but then all this is useless untill such things are put into place...so what am i proposing? We need bases, capital ships, defense bots(purchasable), and largeer trade vessels, which should cost a fortune, I know you guys are working your buts off, and doing a great job at that...but any features for a guild are utterly useless until such things are put into the game. A new ranking system would be nice though, maybe one that let the commander decided what all the ranks are called so that there is a hierarchy...

The guild bank account fits perfectly in with the idea that a guild could buy its own bots. It also gives a reason to have money (CreeBarney) until the ability to purchase cap. ships, sectors and stations come into place.

I love almost all of the ideas listed here, especially with the guild management and treasury. Brilliant.

This is waayyy back, I am kinda new, but still...
Most people have said that the guild requirments, in the way of number of members, is just fine. That we dont need three person guilds and such. But how about this, you can create a guild with any number of players, with at least two, but wouldnt have any major guild options, i.e. bank account, specific cargo/escorts, buying bots, etc. until there are ten members. I agree, ten is a lot to stay active, as it is hard to start, but once started it should be easier to gain more people. Also, maybe with the guild mission thing, the only ones that could be made by the commander could be cargo missions, mentoring missions, etc. Not real missions, but maybe ones that tell them, and then the commander could pay them out of the bank. Also, maybe guilds could have a seperate training system of some sort, i.e. if you are in a guild a x multiplier is added to all points you get. Also, maybe guilds could be factored to a specific government, and if you are in that guild youget an increased rating with that government or something.

Incarnate, a1k0n, Ray, Waylon, we really need new guild features. IDF is only 46 people and it's getting impossible to manage with only two lieutentants, me, and a console interface. I need the ability to appoint CM's, or the general member populus needs the ability to vote them. We need the ability to initiate votes about people who are not currently online and have those votes persist across multiple logoffs. And we really, really need a /guild motd function.

We have discussed custom decals before. The consensus was that it would be a pain in the ass for the client to have to load 5000 seperate custom logos every time it logs on.
Then having to make sure the logos are rated G would be a logistical nightmare. Nobody wants to have to deal with a bunch of ships flying around the galaxy with a giant penis painted on the side

Accualy its not that big of a pain in the arse as you all belive it to be.. the best format to use is PCX for multiplayer type games/MMOs.. its extremly small in byte size and can hold a great deal of detail... you wouldnt nessacarly have to Download every decal on every players ship in the game either.. restricting the image to 64x64 pixels in size. the largest image will be all of 12k at the very most.. usualy they run from 6-10k average.. Make it so the image is only loaded when you load the sector with that said player in that sector or when he enters the sector (behind the scenes download) Its true that making sure every image is rated G can be a daunting task.. thats why you ask for volenteers that are deemed responsable, impose a waiting time for validation of your image/guild image *if that be the case* and every few days send a batch out to be validated.. the "Appointee" then looks through them and sends back the ones that are allowed in one bunch and the rejected ones in another. at that point they get added for that player to use, however that is done.

6-10k for a 64x64 image? Jeez. One can get smaller filesizes with GIFs. Really, I shouldn't see why decals should be anything other than monochrome- black and transparent.

I think it would be interesting to be able to control the rules during a guilds formation that would set its organizational structure.

You could make it entirely Democratic, or governed by a strict Military Hierarchy. A Commander could set a flag that would let him /her choose a successor, or set one that would allow the council to do so(republic type). It could set the number of levels of organization as well.

For example, I am currently commander of two guilds, the Medics and the Corsairs, each with very different (theoretically) organizational structures.

The Medics should strictly be egalitarian, each medic has their duty to perform, and command is rather unnecessary.

OTOH The Corsairs, requiring organized operations, does better with some sort of command. But the Command, and lieutenants, are based only on fighting skill, if I were defeated by one of my lieutenants, I would have to step down. But the Mechanism for my stepping down is a bit difficult right now. I would need to get several of the council members to vote me out, and then vote the other person in. Seems so much simpler if I could just nominate my successor.

EDIT: P.S.- It's also bloody hard to demote a lieutenant, as I want these to be flexible, I think this should be in place.

You know why?
Because nothing really needs to be done about guilds. They're fine the way they are.
Putting them in was a waste of time in the first place.

Another theory is that guilds really do need new features and junk, but stickied threads tend to get overlooked because people sticky too many of them.
Dec 18, 2004 bongaonga1 link
First off, your wrong genka. Nothing is perfect, the guilds give a sense of roleplaying, and many of these suggestions would open up more options for that roleplaying. Also I had an idea. Capital ships, able to be bought by guilds for like 10 mil. Dock but only to "trade" ship so to say. No buying or anything. Just like a pilot and others can man turrents. This would be helpful in guild wars. Thiss may not be possible, but I think that there would just be one pilot that could switch with others, and everyone else would be a turrent. Like maybe when they dock ppl would het a menu asking where trhey wanted to be i.e. turrent 1 front etc.

genka's first point was a joke. He tends to have very dry humor like that.

I think the Commander NEEDS to be able to shift around council members. Multiple times now I've needed dev help because people leave or resign and we can't fill the spot again naturally.
