Bah! Who needs shields?

Shields are a wonderful idea, and could make the game much better if implemented carefully, but there are two ways of protecting an egg.

1: Create a technologically advanced deflective field known as a shield to envelop the egg, protecting it at the cost of energy

2: Attach sheets of metal to the egg — more commonly known as "armour plating" an egg.

So which one is better? Well, the shielded egg requires a constant source of energy that retracts from the egg's ability to shoot and move. On the other hand, the armour plated egg doesn't need to use any energy whatsoever while in flight (the armour is welded on at the station, anyhow.) No, the armour doesn't exactly regenerate, and yeah, armour is pretty heavy, but having a hunk of metal on your back sure doesn't stop you from spraying a cloud of plasma at every other egg you see.

Perhaps this speaks to some of you as it does to me. Both shielding and armour plating would provide sufficient eye-candy, and shielding or armour plating alone would add more strategy to the game. But, the amount of strategy added by allowing users to pick shielding or armour — or both, is amazing.

Plus, governments may have their choices, too. Heavy shielded Itani/heavily armoured Serco/the ever-so-unpredictable UIT... People's preferences would dramatically increase nationalism, too.

The UIT really are too popular as a faction... I don't want to see them nerfed, but I would like to see there being real perks to being Serco or Itani... and shields do have a place in the game, according to the backstory...
