Bounty System

Sigh,

okay, on my way into a station, Amarus snagged me and collected the bounty, good show, I have no problem with that.

What I do have a problem with, is the fact that I just lost both a combat and a trade level. My understanding before was that the level would not actually change, it would just become more difficult to advance.

Now, faced with the certainty of having to experience the incredibly mundane botting+trading my way back up, (with the very real possibility that I will get killed, it happens), I'm just not interested. You wanted to stop piracy? good job, ya did it. Good luck finding targets for your bounty system.

Not to mention the fact, that anyone who has the money, can now set bounties on them and keep dropping their levels. And it doesn't even need to be someone with a lot of kills. Sacred Chao could set 12 bounties on a level 5 combat player, effectively dropping them back into the non-pvp range.

The only fun part of this game was the PvP side, which I cannot now partake of, because it will require hours of tedium for a few
fights.

I may come back later, but for the moment, I'm out.

It makes you lose 5% of your xp. So if you are at the border between one level and another, you will lose the level. But, for example, a level 10 light weapons person with 226,000 light xp will lose about 12,000 xp and will drop to lvl9. It doesn't take long to get back that 10,000- maybe 10 bonuses in an adv combat mission. A level 5 player with 26,000 xp will lose 1300 xp. That's only three bonuses to get back. Also, once a bounty has been collected, another bounty cannot be placed on the same person for a good bit of time. Chill, dude.

i love when pvp is hard.
die = lose a lot of things.

it's called true PvP game.

It's annoying when you kill somone and they come back 30 sec later (because their homestation is near) and they didn't lose nothing (unless the a lit moneys "Ship+weapons cost").

So if i understood the bountie system.
only (mostly) PvPers (player killers) are affected because they have a "bad standing".
It's alright for me.

RL, are you SURE you drop a level when the xp goes below the threshold for your current level? I'm sure I got a few -1000's from certain PKs and it put me below my level 8 combat threshold, but I was still level 8 (although that was a couple of weeks ago). Personally it makes no sense to me how a player can lose experience, but hey....

Shapenaji did... Personally, nobody's wanted to give me a bounty yet. :)

Who is going to want to risk losing XP? One more anti-pirate measure...

Botting is boring no matter how you slice it. I'm not going to want to bot for an extra hour to get a cushion once I hit level 8, I'm going to want to jump back into combat. If I am good at combat, I am now penalized by having a bounty set on my head that, when collected, will force me to have to bot again. Huh?

Having read the logic that an XP hit is a way to curb exploiting... well I guess that makes sense. Doesn't really seem to be any other way to ensure that people don't just let themselves be killed for the bounty.

Still sucks, though. Gah. :/

the bountie system is a way for peaceful traders to get revenge on the pirates.

1 000 000 mini to grief a griefer.
lol i like the idea.

1 000 000 = 5 % of licences = same time to make.

No reason to whine. It's very fun.

Dec 09, 2004 Nya13 link
btw it's giving a reason to make moneys lol
i didnt make moneys above 100 000 before because it was usless.

Wow, that didn't take long...

IMO, *any* type of XP loss is extremely frustrating and usually bad, and was actually my biggest concern in reading about the bounty hunting system. But I thought I'd wait and see how it worked out before I mentioned anything, but it's kinda sad that I haven't even gotten of work to try out the bounty hunting before somebody's already unhappy with the XP penalty.

I understand that they don't want bounties to be exploitable, and have people letting themselves be killed and splitting the profits, but IMO a XP penalty isn't the best way to stop it. Looking at the legal/illegal bounty system, something I think might work better is for the legal bounties, the player with the bounty on their head is fined enough of a percantage (like 100% IMO ;) of the bounty to make it unprofitable to split it with the bounty hunter. Illegal bounties placed by players should have little or no penalty to the player with the bounty on their head, as IMO that can lead to too many exploits.

Just my thoughts to waste time at work...

really why the heck somone will spend 1 000 000 on your head if it's usless?

the 5% lose is fine.

Icarus: Yeah I'm sure, unfortunately.

Roguelazer: think before you babble. I had 3 bounties placed on me in the last day. 1 when they started, and 2 more after we tested to see what the results of collecting the bounty were.
So clearly, MANY bounties can be placed. Furthermore, I don't care if I have to go through FIVE bots every time a bounty is collected (the real number is closer to 140, just a short jaunt eh?), I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT THAT STUPID AI.

Great, this is the only way to run the bounty system eh?

I have to bot every time some trader makes a mil (what the hell else are they gonna spend it on?)

Money is worthless, except, now, as a way to make people bot.... but botting is the most boring thing to do in the vendetta universe, next to trading.

You traders want a pirate free universe? Go get an excel spreadsheet and fill it with random prices, separate them by 10 thousand cells (to give you that nice "traveling" feeling), then you can sell back and forth, if you'd like I could give you a price equation based on how much you've sold.

This is a twitch combat system game, there is no point to using it if you're not fighting, and I'm not going to fight when I realize that every other person is a friggin bounty hunter.

Chill out? You're talking about making PvP tedious, just so that some traders can be all happy traveling to Corvus, so that they can get their FC and plasma dev, and bot for the rest of eternity.

oh yeah, and let me add while I'm pissed off:
Rogue, you've had a "smart" + short answer for every idea or problem anyone has ever had with the system. I'm tired of it.

Nya, I botted my time, and I did my fair share of trading, I evaded pirates, and I killed a few.

If its clear that I am an issue to the status of this game, then I can fix that much easier than this. My subscription runs out on the first.

i ever dislike carbears coz they lead all MMOPRG to a peaceful and boring game.

PS : i do not attack any1 here :)

The thing was, I was LOOKING FORWARD to defending my bounties from traders.

But now, the bounty system seems worthless. Instead of increasing the amount of PvP I got to engage in(the reason I was looking forward to it), it forces me to reconsider any fight in which I may get killed, just because the time issue of getting back up just isn't worth it.

[EDITED] <was a bad idea>

problem do not come from Bountie system.

It's come from that Pirates cannot do their jobs because station's bot are powerful.

and The bountie hunter lose anything if he fail the mission. he should lose 5% also if he got kill by a somone with a bountie on his head.

being a bountie hunter shouldn't be easy.
because i think atm. evrybody is bountie hunter in game.
(if you are a bounty hunter. it should be showed up.)

I figured it wouldn't take long for someone to collect that bounty. On the other hand I just learnt that it makes all skills of the target frop 5%, sorry Shape, I didn't know that :/

We definitely need more efficient (as in : harder but much faster) ways to gain combat XP to compensate for this.
Dec 09, 2004 Nya13 link
really if i was a peaceful trader and being griefed all days by a pirate.

puting a bountie on his head is the only way for me to get revenge and grief him back.

Do not make it useless.

Just make that being a bountie hunter is not easy.
Dec 09, 2004 Nya13 link
the bountie hunter should be a skilled player ready to lose something if he fail.

but it sound like atm. eveybody could be a bountie hunter.

Shape atm is better than me.
But i am ready to lose 5% and become a Bountie Hunter if the gain is 1 000 000. i think it's a valid and a good bet.
Dec 09, 2004 GrimLeo link
EXP lost is a bad idea, Pay 1,000,000 and you will make the target lost 5% skill point. It only a matter of time for a pilot with a bounty on their head. The pirate population is small compared to trader pop plus the traders are richer. Driving pirates out of game is only going to make the game more boring. Maybe a solution would be new bounty collected against pilot stat. PvP players are fairly stat driven (kills, deaths, etc). I also don't see anything to stop non-pirate CTC players from getting targeted by the other side.
Dec 09, 2004 Nya13 link
who is going to be a bountie hunter if it's not easy?
no matter the moneys you put on it. only skilled players and not a carebears is ready for it.

losing Xp is a good idea to grief a griefer.
pirate = griefer.

i do not think that will kick out the pirates.
they used to be the most skilled players.
