Station Turrets

So... how bout we extend player controllable turrets to Corvus, players with high standing get to use em. If you want to get to the black market, you have to pull 8 g's through turretfire to land :).

Sounds fun! But people with semi-decent standing with Corvus (eg, greater than -200 start) should be able to get in (I'm a Corvus supporter, long live the black market!)

So newbs could get 1 shot at making a name for themselves, and if they screw up, TOO BAD! Seems fitting of the black market mentality :)

I like the idea of turrets at the stations, and could definitely stop in station sector kills if the docked pilot could take out someone with station cannons, but, I dought this will ever happen. If turrets are going to be put at stations, npc specifically, they should be npc controlled and should have range out to the no fire zone line. Then the strike forces could be nerfed down a bit.

Player owned stations on the other hand should be completely PC controlled and should be able to be fitted with any weapon available in game for standard ships, OR, create new content for station/frigate armorments, specific to them only.

At one point recently (read: since VO went commercial) you could target each section of a station (radar dish, catwalk, dock, etc...), so I imagine station turrets are not far off, development wise atleast.

This is a good idea, for all factions not just corvus. The SF is relatively easy to escape from, and I see this becoming a problem when we have a large influx of newbies that don't take kindly to being marauded at their home station.

I think a more powerful version of the beam turrets we currently have should be extended to the stations... with something like a 1k range (radius of the NFZ) and 3k damage.

As a caveat I don't think the turrets should be user-controllable unless the SF is deployed.

Phaserlight, if we do that(maybe make the beam the color of their faction) and implement the unique strike forces that I have talked about previously, then we'd have a unique look to all of the factions.

Ehhh... I'd say good idea, but only for the major nations (Serco, Itani, and UIT). Not so much for the minor factions. And I'd be against having them player equippable. Just NPC controlled, and for NFZ restriction.

Only bad thing about having them in fation space is, what will stop a grifer from using them on n00bs. I mean look at how the cap ships are abused that way.

Make objects that are below -600 the only targetable/damagable ones? This would theoretically include any bots Obsidian might accidentally spawn. :P

Maybe targetable, but not dammagable.

Just make it so it takes at least 2 hits to kill anything, and make it so firing on anyone with positive standing kicks you out of the turret, and possibly even the station, with a huge temporary, and a somewhat large permanent faction standing penalty.
