Couple people have (I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive), and it seems the reactions have been mixed--some people are reporting fine performance, and others are reporting framerates of 1 or lower on computers with the higher-end graphics cards, like Macbook Pros.

I had an issue, but upon relaunching it returned to normal framerates.

Definitely having framerate issues...especially "in-station" but occasionally in space also.
System information to follow:
17" MacBook Pro 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Dual 2.7GHz PPC G5, 4.5GB RAM, 256MB NVDIA GeForce 8xxx series

Any ideas? I love this game...would hate to give it up just because Leopard came out...

Running leopard.....will give an update after playing for a while

Oh , I'm sure the devs will sort it out shawnfreezy . Its only been out 36 hours ....

The problem isn't Leopard exactly, it's likely the NVidia drivers for the 8000 series cards. Same problem has existed on the Macbook Pros with the 8600m GT ever since one of the Software Updates this summer. I had hoped that Leopard would have upgraded drivers, but evidently that wasn't the case.

WoW players have apparently had a similar problem with this card/driver combination. There have been reports that Leopard fixed the issues, but not for everyone. It may be a combination of settings and other things going on in the background. One thing to check is that Spotlight and/or Time Machine aren't doing their initialization passes, as that will hurt performance quite a bit.

Suggestions to make the game playable again until fixed drivers appear (if indeed the 10.5 drivers don't fix the problem). Some or all of these in combination will likely make the game perfectly playable, if slightly less pretty:
1. Disable Full Scene Glow Effect
2. Disable Shaders
3. Disable VSync
4. Try changing the "mpengine" setting in config.ini. In my case, turning it off (mpengine=0) helped performance.

Also, unless things have changed, don't enable texture compression, unless you like holes in space and trippy asteroids. Really shouldn't need it anyway on a graphics card with 256+ MB of RAM.

I am running 10.5 also. I have not changed any of the settings in VO. I always run all settings on full MAX and 1440x900.

I just noticed that on first run it was a bit sluggish, but once I had rebooted my 10.5 a few times VO runs fine for me now, just like before:

iMac G5 1.93GHz
10.5
1.5GB ram
128MB video

Thanks mdaniel, I'll try that...usually my computer just lives somewhere between sleep and on...

There is a MacOSX v10.5.1 update on it's way. I dare say that anything major that v10.5.0 suffers from will be fixed in he upcoming update.

Apple made v10.5.1 9B13 available to developers on Wednesday so it's likely not far away.

Cheers,

I'm running 10.5 and finding definite graphicalissues, mostly slowdown making it unplayable for now. Incidentally, I'm finding this with a few games; especially those that use Shader effects. With C&C3 for example, when shader is on (even the low setting) it becomes so slow as to be unplayable as the interface jutters and you cant properly control anything.

But as others have said, 10.5.1 is on the way hopefully to fix this.

Hmm, treated myself to a 24 " 2.8 gig iMac , installed 10.5 from the box. Very happy with it all.

I prefer vo with glow off , I like the hard edged look . Typically I'm getting over 100 fps in station sectors and about 600 fps in Space .

I like the glossy screen, no reflection problems in the location I use though I haven't seen the screen in strong sunlight yet . Mind you it is Scotland I may have to wait a while before that happens.

Oh, and the aluminium keyboard is a joy. Gorgeous. For a bit of classic mac detail design check out the battery compartment on the remote......

You guys with problems with VO, are you on an intel mac or ppc mac?
Is there anyone that is running 10.5 with a ppc mac and not having any VO problems?

My PPC Mac won't get past the log-in screen (Can't even type my password as everything freezes.

I haven't adjusted anything in config.ini as yet.

Ok, I guess Apple pretty much dropped the ball on that one.
I heard they are going to release 10.5.1 update soon. Can you check it out when that comes out? I doubt they fixed it though.
Nov 15, 2007 RelayeR link
Bug report sent to VO, Ray. I'll update when .5.1 comes out but I'm not counting on anything good.

New VO bug report sent, Ray. 10.5.1 did nothing to solve the problem. Still 1 fps or crash.

People seem to be getting slightly improved FPS (still not what it should be though) if they change mpengine=1 to mpengine=0 in the [refgl] section of their config.ini .
