Update Problem

Oct 07, 2004 TheCondor link
Hi,

i can't get Vendetta working on my Gentoo System. I've downloaded the installer twice, once with bittornado and once again from the server. When i'm trying to log in, i always get this Error:

[Thu Oct 7 19:26:23 2004] Protocol version does not match server.
[Thu Oct 7 19:26:23 2004] Please use the update utility to update your Vendetta installation.

Somebody told me, i have to run the update.rlb to update Vendetta.
Ok, what wouldn't be a problem, if there were such a file.
find / -iname update.rlb tells me, that i don`t that file on my system. Is there another way to update vendetta and what is the mysterious update utility, i didn't find anything about howto update on this site.
Could you guys please help me.

Make sure you don't have multiple versions of vendetta or it's installer lying around.

Sounds obvious but I managed to do it and spent ages debugging the installer before spotting my mistake :{

To give you some hope I'm running it under Gentoo and this was my only problem getting it going.

You aren't supposed to run ~/.vendetta/vendetta directly. Run the executable that the installer has you install (i.e. it recommends you install it in ~/bin/vendetta, but it's up to you where to put it). This is the update utility. ~/.vendetta/update.rlb is an update to the updater itself -- the installer doesn't install one.
