nvidia driver bug..?

[please lock it or whatever, it was a hardware problem]

Hi,

VO "hanged" to me twice today, so I decided to report it. First of all: it happens in station. Interface simply disappears and the background (station) freezes, but I can still hear the sounds interface makes as I move my mouse. I had no such problems before the update.
I managed to logoff blindly using /logoff command in the console, and that's why I saw in the menu:

Total garbage. What's worse: other apps that use opengl (I've checked with Enemy Territory) show those rectangles too. Restarting X or reloading the driver doesn't help, I had to reboot my computer. It looks like some serious bug in nvidia's drivers has been exposed by the latest version. I have a GeForce FX5600 card with the latest drivers, running XFree 4.3.0.1 (from Debian Sid), kernel 2.6.10. I can't see anything special in openglerr.log.

Ayuh, that's a hardware problem. I coulda told you that, except you put it in the top of your post. Tricky!

Yes indeed, there is/was an ugly bug in the 7xxx versions prior to 7664, in both the Linux and the Win version.

It's known as the infamous 'pci_badness' bug and it was caused by extreme overheating of the GPU (~70ºC).

The last driver 7664 works like a charm.
