EnB and TGFT will again be hosting The Deneb Run this weekend at 2 AM GMT Sunday. Please check /time if you are confused about GMT.

*PRIZES AVAILABLE FOR NON-RACERS* !!! See rules below.

All citizens are welcome to race, there is no entrance fee, and 4 Million credits in prizes are available. Some of it could be yours!

Once again, the rules are:

1) Racers must race from Odia M14 through Deneb heading clockwise back to Odia M14.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) Contestants must be within 100m of me before the start
4) No shooting before I start the race.
5) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
6) All weapons and ships allowed, except those listed in #10.
7) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (2 million credits)
8) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (1.2 million credits)
9) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (800k credits)
10) No Valkyries allowed.
11) If there are at least 3 racers, and less than 3 racers complete The Deneb Run, the undistributed prize money will be awarded to those who killed the racers as follows:
- The most recent kill gets the highest unawarded prize
- The 2nd most recent kill gets the second highest unawarded prize
- etc.

Example: If 1 racer finishes, the player that had the last kill of a racer will receive a 1.2 million credit prize, and the player that had the 2nd most recent kill would receive 800k credits.

I believe this is a good way of saying thanks to those who help spice things up for the racers.

Please reply to this thread if you intend to race.

Announcing the results of The Deneb Run #29, sponsored by EnB and TGFT.

This was a race to remember...

The Pilots
----------
Pilot 13: UIT, he is a veteran racer.

John Rambler: UIT, member of TGFT, he is a veteran racer.

Spaceranger: Serco, member of TGFT, he is a veteran racer.

Ronic Noctis, UIT, member of TGFT, he is a veteran racer.

73h_m4k0: Itani, this is his first race.

Ernon: Itani, this is his first race.

Hakashis Sholus: Serco, member of TGFT, this is his first race.

The Race
--------
(A special thanks to moldyman for writing this up...)

Twenty three minutes behind schedule, the race finally took off. 73h_m4k0 was the first to the wormhole... the wrong wormhole. First to the appropriate wormhole was Pilot 13, followed a few seconds later by John Rambler and then Hakashis Sholus. Spaceranger and Ronic Noctis brought up the rear. Ronic Noctis came under fire as Ernon was eliminated as the race contingent entered Sedina. 73h_m4k0 continued to go the wrong way, entering Bractus while everyone, including himself, was oblivious to this. Ronic was eliminated before he could leave for B-8, leavng five racers left, one who was heading the wrong way. Hakashis was first into Latos, followed twelve seconds later by Pilot 13. Spaceranger entered Latos two seconds after him, though he was under heavy fire.

73h_m4k0 was entering Edras before he asked the right question "[Sat Jan 14 21:26:00 2006] ffff00(group) [Pelatus G-2] <73h_m4k0> am i going the wrong way?" John Rambler entered Latos after this, as Pilot 13 announces it's dinner time back home. He drops out, leaving four racers. Hakashis pulled way ahead of Spaceranger as he enters Ukari, leaving the 2nd place racer behind in awe. Spaceranger came under attack from G o d in Ukari, taking more hits as the race group zoomed into Initros, Hakasis Sholus in the lead with John Rambler bringing up the rear. 73h_m4k0 sat in Edras, pondering if it was worth going back to Odia and resuming the race along the correct course. G o d demonstrates his skill and eliminates John Rambler at this point. This leaves three racers left. Hakashis SHolus led in Pyronis, Spaceranger with heavy damage in Initros and 73h_m4k0 way back in Edras.

Spaceranger closes the gap to only a nine second difference as he sights Hakashis in Dantia. But, alas, poor Spaceranger. Spucks dead hamster rose from the grave and dragged him down into it with him. Now, there was only Hakashis Sholus in Betheshee and 73h_m4k0 in Bractus. Hakashis had this in the bag, right? Wrong. He came under fire at various points but was still going strong. Through Itani space and out of it, He met the four waiting pirates in Edras H-15 though. Note: This seems to be a favorite waiting spot for them now. Dodging and strafing, he tried to find a hole in their blockade, but decided to repair and rearm first. 73h_m4k0 had been eliminated a while back, leaving Hakshis as the only racer left. With the help of Ronic Noctis, he got through the blockade and into Pelatus, running like hell as pirates screamed bloody murder behind him.

With six pirates on his tail, and the number growing, he pushed his ship as fast as it would go, racing for the entrance in Odia M-14. The pirates lagged behind, leavng only Miharu to stop him, as she had been saying she would for the past hal hour or so. Poor Miharu. Hakashis Sholus slipped by and docked for the win, denying any pirate or agressor the two million credits which were rightfully his.

The Stats
---------
Hakashis Sholus | 51:25 | Orion Hornet, fc batt, 1x Gemini
73h_m4k0 | DNF | Vult MkI, fc batt, 2x neut
Spaceranger | DNF | Warthog MkII, fc batt, megaposi, sunflare
John Rambler | DNF | Orion Hornet, fc batt, no weaps
Pilot 13 | DNF | Atlas X, fc batt, no weaps
Ronic Noctis | DNF | Orion Hornet, fc batt, no weaps
Ernon | DNF | Warthog MkII, ?, ?

Interesting observations:

1) The pirates kicked some serious ass this time, with Mr Spuck earning 2 million of the 4 million credits in prize money, and making this the deadliest Deneb Run ever.

2) In what may emerge as a response to the pirate threat, several of the downed racers returned to help the sole remaining racer complete the race.

I'm willing to consider an earlier time slot, since I know that would help the European players. I'd like to know what other people think, especially those in PST.

If I was to move The Deneb Run to midnight GMT (Saturday night), would you be more or less likely to attend?
Jan 17, 2006 jexkerome link
As a PSTer, I'd be as likely to attend.
Jan 17, 2006 LeberMac link
So that would make it 6 PM CST? That's not too bad.

Hehe, that's pretty funny when the winning time is almost twice the usual time it takes. I'm glad Hakashis won!

And as a general rule, DNF racers SHOULD probably help out the remaining racers by eliminating pirates.
Jan 17, 2006 jexkerome link
Wrong, Leber. 2AM GMT is 6PM PST; 12AM GMT would be 4PM PST. We're still at -8; once DST kicks back in, it will be -7 so 12AM GMT will be 5PM PST.

And I disagree with you on the DNF racers, you're obviously a goody-too shoes Itani. If I got knocked out of the race, I'd try to bag as many remaining racers as possible for a SECOND chance to earn some cash in the race. It's like, OBVIOUS.

Just a note... Jex's answer would fit his in-character actions.

MONEY!
Jan 17, 2006 MSKanaka link
Nah, I agree with Jex on that. If you can't win cash for finishing the race, why not win cash for finishing off the other racers? :P
Jan 17, 2006 moldyman link
Meh, depends on who's left. Now if Miharu is still in and I'm eliminated... >.>
Jan 18, 2006 LeberMac link
jex, that's CST for me. (I'm in WI, you butt.)

And I hates the pierats, so from now on when I finish I'll have a fully-stocked swarm rag in Odia M-14 to use in eliminating the pirate killjoys.
Jan 18, 2006 jexkerome link
Who cares about CST, really?
Jan 18, 2006 LeberMac link
Apparently Guild software does. You may have noticed that they're here in WI. Perhaps I need a swarm rag for jex/jayce/joyce as well, hrm... >:P
Jan 18, 2006 zamzx zik link
huzzar for earlier times!
Jan 19, 2006 fooz2916 link
PST here, and I'll probably have an easier time getting on at 4:00...until I get a job...

Is there even going to be a Deneb Run this week due to new UI? If so what time is it going to be? I would appreciate knowing BEFORE saturday.
Jan 19, 2006 jexkerome link
If Guild cared about CST, then server time wouldn't be GMT :P

And I have taken down a number of swarm rags, and outrun so many more, that I have no fear of them, hah!
Jan 19, 2006 Screwball link
Yes, I plan to run The Deneb Run this weekend. Why would the UI affect that? Just use the stable one. Or is there a "cheat" I'm missing...
Jan 19, 2006 jexkerome link
There is. You press enter twice and you are off the race, LOL
