TGFT and EnB will again be hosting The Deneb Run this weekend.
*** The TIME will be 02:00 (2:00 AM) GMT Sunday (9 PM EDT Saturday) ***
This is to better enable European players to participate. The plan is to alternate between 22:00 GMT on Saturday and 02:00 GMT on Sunday.
Check /time if you are confused about GMT.

All citizens are welcome to race, there is no entrance fee, and 4 Million credits in prizes are available. Some of it could be yours!
Once again, the rules are:
1) Racers must race from Odia M14 through Deneb heading clockwise back to Odia M14.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) Contestants must be within 100m of me before the start
4) No shooting before I start the race.
5) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
6) All weapons and ships allowed, except those listed in #10.
7) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (2 million credits)
8) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (1.2 million credits)
9) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (800k credits)
10) No Valkyries allowed.
11) Racers must use the standard VO client, not the new one in testing.
12) If there are at least 3 racers, and less than 3 racers complete The Deneb Run, the undistributed prize money will be awarded to those who killed the racers as follows:
- The most recent kill gets the highest unawarded prize
- The 2nd most recent kill gets the second highest unawarded prize
- etc.
Example: If 1 racer finishes, the player that had the last kill of a racer will receive a 1.2 million credit prize, and the player that had the 2nd most recent kill would receive 800k credits.
I believe this is a good way of saying thanks to those who help spice things up for the racers.

Announcing the results of The Deneb Run #34, sponsored by TGFT and EnB.
The Pilots
----------
Spaceranger: UIT, member of TGFT, a veteran racer, he placed second in last week's Deneb Run.
Stranger: UIT, Councilor of BDC, a veteran racer who's yet to finish a race.
LeberMac: Itani, Councilor of ITAN, not only a veteran racer but also the second-most succesful one in the history of the Deneb Run. He's been absent from the race for a long time.
Blue Streak: Itani, formerly known as MonkofAkan, the most succesful racer of The Deneb Run, as well as one of the more constant participants.
John Rambler: UIT, member of TGFT, a veteran yet sporadic racer, he last participated in the Deneb Run #30.
Toshiro: Serco, member of SoR, this is his first time racing.
Mike-L: Serco, member of SCAR, a relative newcomer to the event, he previously raced in the Deneb Run #32.
Mick: UIT, former member of now-defunct ELIT, another newcomer that competed in last week's Deneb Run, though he didn't finish.
The Race

On your marks... get set... go!
At precisely 02:01:04 event MC Joyce Sanders fired off the starting shot and all eight racers around her warped, the race starting. However, as the pilots began to arrive at the first wormhole toshiro realized his ship systems were behaving too sluggishly to allow him to make an impact on the race, and decided to forfeit right there and then; his fellow pilots tried to convince him to carry on, and told him that finishing the Run is an accomplishment in itself, but he wouldn't have any of it. Not even through the first wormhole, and the Run had already lost a racer.
More losses were to come; the pilots raced furiously through Sedina, Blue Streak, LeberMac and Stranger at the lead, and found the first pirate blockade in the most infamous Sector in all the Galaxy, Sedina B-8. Blue Streak got cooked a little but managed to enter Latos... and then it happened: Spaceranger yelled out as his ship was taken out by mines at the same time LeberMac announced being hit my mr_spuck; result? klutsy Joyce got the messages tangled and announced LeberMac's demise, much to his chagrin, while Spaceranger's real demise went unnoticed. LeberMac took to berating the air-headed MC over the incident for the next five minutes; no wonder he likes her brother better!
Spaceranger was not the only one to fall to the Sedina blockade; SCAR femme fatale BUNNY destroyed John Rambler's ship, while Amadeus pursued Mike-L through the Latos wormhole and wasted him there. Out of the first real obstacle of the Run, and already half the pilots were out.
The remaining pilots began a furious neck to neck race as they entered the Dominion, neither giving an inch, everyone just seconds behind or ahead of someone else, but the storms en route and the slight processing difference of their navcomps began to tell the difference; soon enough Blue Streak had pulled ahead a whole jump in Sol II, a lead he was to keep and widen for the remainder of the Run. After him came LeberMac, hitting storm after storm after storm, then Mick, and finally Stranger.
By the time Stranger finally reached Deneb (at 02:17:11) Blue Streak's lead was secure, and so was LeberMac's lead over Mick. However, more pirates and storm prowled around Itanispace, and though no racers fell in Itanispace, all but Mick got their armor nicked by them.
On they flew, past Itanispace and back into the Grey, where the pirates were setting up their last blockades around Pelatus and Bractus, hoping for that prize money. Blue Streak ran the blockades, taking some fire, but broke free to dock at Corvus Hold and claim first prize; LeberMac followed, but at the last moment, when it seemed he was breaking free to Odia M-14, Black 2 caught up and blasted him out of the sky, ending his dreams of second place; Joyce asked for confirmation this time before announcing his disqualification.
LeberMac's death opened up a window of opportunity for both Mick and Stranger, and they went all-out for the Corvus Hold docks; aided by what seemed to be pirate depression at their failure to claim the bounty on Blue Streak, both racers managed to dock without problems, first Mick, then Stranger, two minutes later. The Run was over.

Interesting observations:
1. The Orion Hornet returns to its role as preferred ship for this race.
2. One racer was gutsy enough to bring a fully-loaded Prometheus to the event.
3. It was a dark and stormy night; all pilots encountered more than their fair share of storms, and were understandably frustrated about it.
4. The Run experienced healthy pirate activity. Mr_spuck and his hamster, BUNNY, Black 2, Amadeus, Pegasus, and CLOWN all tried to earn themselves some cash, most notably the 2 million reward on Blue Streak's ship; even Mike-L went after it, after being knocked out of the race.
5. Is it just me, or are Stranger's and Spaceranger's names too similar?

jex, I think you are at fault when it comes to whether the Vulture (Mk I) has infiniboost or not... it does! Please correct accordingly.
It does have a top speed that is lower than that of the hornet, but it has better acceleration, which might just give it that needed edge... will have to test. Next time.

Hornets have better thrust, ie push per weight. But Hornets have much much more weight :) Plus the Vulture's slim profile and light weight help in avoiding pirate fire, my main concern now.
moldyman, push per weight, or thrust-to-weight ratio, is exactly that.
Force divided by Mass, F/m.
Thus, the vulture has better acceleration, even though its thrust is lower than that of the hornet (40-50 N), due to its radically lower mass. Trust me, I did the calculations :).
Now I have to put my ship where my hypothesis is... namely: The Vulture is the best all-round ship in the game.

Removed the part about the non-Infiniboost ships, though bear in mind Joyce flies with a TD hog, which is non-infiniboost, and Miharu flies a Vulture MkIII, which is also non-Infiniboost, and both have placed in the top three spots with them. I also thought no light fighters had Infiniboost, and since I tend not to fly crapships- I mean, light ships, there was no way for me to know.
P.S. The best all-around ship in the game is the Prom, make no mistake about that. It fights, it runs, it can carry cargo.
