Don't Blame Icarus...

WHAT!? you say. Well lets look at it this way. Icarus isn't explointing. An exploit would be more of an error in the code, or something the devs overlooked. though you could say the devs do over look what he's done anyways. But the simple fact is he is playing within the rules of Vendetta and apparently the devs don't mind at all what he does<check a1k0ns comment in the Off with their heads post>. For if the devs cared they would have done something about it<i.e. the login bug>. So i wouldn't really even bother with yelling at Icarus when there is a problem. Everyone knows that the devs can fix it so you must tell them to do so. Else they might not have a problem with it at all. So i say to Icarus, "Keep at it man!"

I didn't really blame icarus. =)

isn't icarus' name the name of that kid in that story? Story along the lines of:

Some guy runs away from athens to crete, king minos makes him build a building that can be get into able but not out able if you don't know the path, to keep the minotar in. He does so by creating the labyrinth, but then he is imprisoned because he knows the way out. He and his son (icarus) escape by takeing fethers from birds and wax from bee hives and makeing them into 2 sets of wings, some guy warns icarus not to fly too high or the sun will melt the wax, he also warns him not to fly too low as not to get the wings wet. On there journy to athens, icarus does both, adventually he goes so high the sun melts it and he plunges into the sea, when some guy gets to land and a couple days later icarus' corpse washes up onto the land.

Lovely story, but icarus always reminds me of it. =P

You're also playing within the rules if you decide to team up and destroy Icarus repeatedly. You're not playing by the rules if you decide to spam the global chat with crass language directed at him. I understand that he might be fine with it, but others may not be.

Station camping is obviously something that needs to be addressed, most likely by disabling weapons during your invulnerability period. If this is the actual issue, then say so.

So
Apr 26, 2003 chewy link
how many times do we have to say so for you to hear it a1k0n?
i cant count the many times!
yet you devs outright ignore it!
try playing the game more, you'll see tons of people complaining about it.
try going back through the post on your own forum and see how many complain about exploits.
i know you've read them cause you've posted in some.

a1k0n, yes it is _a_ issue, as there are many. I think invulnerability gets lowered to like 1-2 seconds, docking time to 5, and turrets to shoot people who fire close to the stations, of course 2 of them spaced more then 250m apart.

Chewy, don't just out right complain, direct it towards a dev and say so politely.

Chewy, tone it down. We are guests. Be nice.

ctishman, i am a beta tester, i'm here to give them my thoughts, cause apparently he didnt know about it. if you dont like my tone, dont read

Ban!

Chewy - you know how many -nice- testers there are that know how to use CONSTRUCTIVE criticism?
Apr 26, 2003 Suicidal Lemming link
ctish is right, you are playing this wonderful game for free (f_r_e_e), point stuff out politely.
Apr 26, 2003 chewy link
also ctishman, i get tired of people complaining but never doing anything about it. if i have to take the heat for doing something so be it. atleast it'll finaly get done and people will shutup
Apr 26, 2003 chewy link
SL this stuff WAS pointed out politely a while back. it took this post to get it finaly noticed.
Apr 26, 2003 hazaanko link
LOL chewy - don't be so egotistical to think that it was THIS post that "got it finally noticed."

They have known about this for quite some time chewy. They spend time on fixing it so that the majority of people will be happy with the results. THEY spend THEIR time and money fixing it. Be patient and live with it until they fix it.

What do you waste chewy? Nothing. This is a free game. You want to see it done faster? Pay them off or something.

how long does it take to chage an integer from:
int seconds = 5;
to
int seconds = 2;
?

also if you look at the past things they have fixed they did them relativly quick, such as the 10second log out in open space. they didn't even need a major update for that. and for knowing about it for a long time why is it not fixed yet? it could have been included in 3.2, but wasn't.
so hazaanko until you something worth while to say, just stop annoying people trying to solve a problem

and if you haven't noticed STILL this is a beta, and i'm giving my input. thats what you do during betas, you give the devs input.
/me notices hazaanko hasn't given any input on the game.

Funny, I haven't seen a thread named "STATION CAMPING BLAAARGH!($*&!#(*)" in a long time. Instead it's "GUIDES ARE USELESS AND IMMORAL" and "DEVS IGNORE OUR TERRIBLE PLIGHT!!!!" I don't run into station campers while playing the game very often, but you're right, us devs don't play all that much. So it hasn't come up in our meetings in a long time.

That isn't to say it isn't a problem. I know it is. I didn't realize it was that bad. I'm in total agreement that a fix is long overdue.

Edit: I don't know whether changing the time from five seconds to two will actually stop it.
Apr 26, 2003 chewy link
a1k0n, how about the exploit solved post i did about 2 weeks ago?
or did you just over look that?
check the Suggestions forum. its there
Apr 26, 2003 hazaanko link
Chewy - maybe you should first learn how to solve a problem. I mean, I'm not POSITIVE (/sarcasm on) but I'm pretty sure making MORE problems in the process as well as insulting people who create the game you're playing don't fall into the process. (/sarcasm off)

-edit- Chewy, whats this about me giving no input in the game? Oh wait.... now I realize that you think yelling is the only way of giving input... oooooh ok my bad.
Apr 26, 2003 chewy link
ok, how about you pay more attention to the boards?
oh wait! that would make sense.
look i have tried the nice way, and that hasn't done anything.
so i have to do it this way.
AND LOOK! i've finaly got a devs attention!
amazing!
it took all this to get them to say anything about it.
Apr 26, 2003 hazaanko link
All I have to say chewy is this: LEARN how to give input. Yelling is not the way to do it. And just because YOU think this exploit is such a huge problem that you have to attack the devs doesn't mean it gives you the right to. I've been getting along just fine knowing that the devs will fix it soon. They're human chewy. Don't get after them because you think you have a right to. I DARE you to walk in their shoes for a while. See how well you do. And if you think you can do a BETTER job than them... then WHY THE HELL DONT YOU MAKE YOUR OWN GAME
