Sector 18 - An answer on how to find the gate to 17

As anyone has discovered the gate back to 17 from 18 does not show on radar. If you have a tons of bots chasing you could die before you exit 18. To solve this problem, if i'm going to sector 18, load up on cheap cargo and as you enter sector 18 I jettison it and mark the gate jump point. then get your cargo and exit back to 17 without a scratch :-)

I tried this and it does work as long as nobody steals the cargo.

Just my 2¢ worth .. Cheers :-)

Its in front of the station , not far. Get your bearings on coming out, you come out in a random spot.

if you fly over the station lined up with the docking ports facing away from the roid field you'll hit it a couple km from the station, i stumbled on it by accidnet running from the bots

Just a fair warning: floating cargo boxes disappear after roughly fifteen minutes.

That's the problem. We need to drop beacons good for an hour or two. Say, a person can have one beacon at a time out, which is visible to his or her own team from any distance.

How do you drop beacons?
What is beacons?

Thanks.

Beacons are something people have been wanting on vendetta for quite some time to show where to meet...or how to get to a secret sector...or even show that your cargo is in a certain spot and for people to leave it alone.

Are they going to be implemented? No idea... :)

or simply the power of marking a location in our own nav computer would be cool... Nobody else could see it and no physical object would have to be realeased into space

It would make sense that once your ship found a hidden wormhole, that the location would be recorded in your ships computer and would thereafter show up on radar... Maybe have this locked into your specific ship, so that there is an added incentive to keep your ship alive...?

Then again, a lot of things that make sense in real life translate into poor game play. I don't know. I need coffee.

I think the devs indicated that the future navigation system will record wormholes that way. I don't know how death will effect it and I don't know if you'll be able to transfer navigational information to other people.

In a way it's kind of fun the way it is... if you have backgrounds turned on you can navigate by the stars. I enjoy it. Learning to reliably fly straight to a wormhole from another gate is cool.

Just a note, I posted this in another forum as well...
The 'hidden' warps do show up on radar as objects (gray dots), so as long as you generally know which direction to head they're pretty easy to find.

as far as star navigation goes....
it works for every wormhole except the gate into 18 or back out

you devs think you could throw us a bone there? i can't even tell you how many times i've missed those jump points

the gate from 18 to 17 is EASY to go to. THAT I hit EVERY time.

When you come out of the station in 18, look for the ribbon in the sky that's similar to the rings of Saturn. THEN, aim for the second stripe and boost away from the station. You should hit the gate to 17 in no MORE than 15 seconds.

i see. how about getting in?
May 27, 2003 Kuvagh link
I just fly straight to it from the 11 gate. Stellar navigation, folks. :)

The hol[e]y roids let you in.

i use the holy roids...and miss every time. I'm about 1 for 10 on hitting that gate

just get an eff/fast-recharge, goto the roid AWAY from the sc11 gate, point to the hole in the roid NEAR the sc11 gate, remove your hand from mouse/js/etc and type /+Turbo.

sometimes the devs forget to make it so that you can't taget the wormholes, when you are able to they show up as "Wormehole Area" on your lil radar thing.

w00t w00t! just got my comp back today though on "Limited Use"
I hatew you asp, and all those with more than 1m video memory so that they can use backgrounds :(
