Guides

Where are they? The community is in dire need of supervisors, and is disintegrating because of the anarchaic atmosphere! I myself haven't seen a guide since 3.2 came out, and they are badly needed.

I second, third, fourth, fith, sixth, seventh, eighth, nineth, tenth, eleventh, tweleveth, thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth that.

The fact we can have guides is great.
The fact that we do have guides is great.

The fact that nothing really happen sucks.

The last time i saw a guide was right before 3.2 came out, i was complaining about something and other...

I have this great knack for saying hi to the guides whenever i have a bad day...

I seventeenth that. I've *never* seen a guide online, even when people have been saying things like "all gays should die"...

I do my part in trying to moderate discussion and keep it friendly, but it never works... of course I shouldn't be doing it, but hey, I love the feeling of doing something good.

There is at least one guide.

It's quite strikingly obvious to me that more are needed, and that they have a pool of willing applicants who would willingly participate.

Last time I asked, there was only one...

All the guides are devs so far. Somehow, I think they don't trust us... I wonder why? /me whistles innocently about the attempt to crash a sector...

Bad silicon! =P

You can trust meeeeee!

What is it exactly that guides can do that the rest of us can't? I've never seen one before....

They can mute players. Erhm... I think they can also do more drastic things like kick players, but I'm not sure. It'd be nice if they could goto sector 0, but I don't believe so.

Mute, happened to me, gets the point through loud and clear ;-P
kick, hasn't happened to me, i don't think it has happened yet. good.
explode, i beleive this is the /kill command, i asked a1k0n to do it to me, works.
Jump, never heard of it.

These commands are great and all, but there is no point to them if they arn't on when so and so is doing this and that.

You don't actually "see" Guides online unless they talk to you directly, in which case you are the only player who can see it.

Sometimes you can tell somebody is being spoken to because they seem to be speaking to nobody. I'm pretty sure I saw somebody doing that last week sometime.

They can do the following...
Mute, kick, explode, jump, and lots more to anyone or even them selves.

I believe jump jumps a player into a different sector. It'd be easy to abuse though, and I'll bet most non-dev guides won't have it.

drool
/jump suiciddal lemming 18
*buy stuff
/jump suicidal lemming 14
*sells stuff

Hrmm, i don't see how jump would be useful to a guide though...

Nah, what it sets the stage for is a future 'prison sector' where uncooperative players could be sent.

Although not exactly on the topic of guides, some of the forum moderators seem to be making posts disappear unnecessarily. There have been many well written posts made on this forum, as well as some very poorly written ones with various inflammatory messages. On two occasions so far, however, I've had two of my posts deleted for absolutely no legit reason whatsoever. No explanation. Nothing. And yet I continue to see some people getting away with posting snide remarks, or threads that are completely irrelevant to their labeled forum section, with little to no moderation whatsoever.

Either someone behind the controls is abusing their powers, or there is in fact some legit reason behind it that may not be so clear. Whatever it is, I ask the need for moderators to EXPLAIN their actions for deleting posts that are questionable. If the post expresses an opinion or idea related to the topic, respect it. Even if there's a hostile or angry tone to it, simply edit it so it gets the point across without the gibberish. I mean heaven forbid a couple of seconds be spent to edit the post without completely deleting it. Everybody has a right to express their opinions and ideas, whether the moderators or anyone else agrees with 'em or not.

Well, I'd rather not get into the subject of moderation in this thread, so I'll create a thread in off-topic.
