Can we take screen caps while in-flight? If so, how do you do it? Thanks.

F12 takes .tga shots

.tga?

So when I push F12, what happenes? Does it work like the Print Screen trick in Windows (copies the image to my clipboard), or is some file saved somewhere? Thanks.

Yes, it is saved in the Vendetta package as dump0001.tga or something.

gimp

PS: If you use gnome/kde, use the built-in screen cap prog. It takes higher quality shots. If you use something else, find and install scrot. It's a console program that silently saves screenshots, and is quite useful when you don't want to interrupt whatever it is that you're doing.

What windows programs support .tga?

Gimp. :P

Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro both support it. .tga is Truevision Targa format. It's fairly simple, and I think we save uncompressed images, so they're basically raw data with a header. You can load that in most programs.

On the mac side, use GraphicConverter.

or PS7

I use Photoshop 6. Doesn't support it. Photoshop 7 should though.

Hey, this is the screenshot thread, so I figured I'd post my long and elaborate request(s) to the devs for screenshots...

Please please please impliment automatic image improvement for screenshots. I've seen a lot of good screenshots gone bad because the people that took them took them at 20/20 detail. Please make it so that, for ~2 seconds while you take the shot, your LOD goes up to 1/1. Please. Thank you. :)

How about just letting me take the screenshots?
I play with everything maxed out (yes, that's right, I play games at 2048*1536 resolution - my desktop is that big too) and only the shaders on the ice in s14 slow me down.

Where'd you get a Radeon 9800/GeForce FX 5900?

Freeman, where can we see your screenshots?!?
May 29, 2003 Vlad link
As far as I know, all versions of photoshop have supported .tga format (for sure back to photoshop 3, and probably earlier.)

If all you're looking for is a viewer for Windows, I reccomend irfanview. It's what I use, anyway.

We don't want to change your graphics settings when you take a screenshot, because if you're taking screenshots for bug reporting purposes, it might make it impossible to capture the bug.

go GraphicConverter!

and why did you guys pick tga? Why not JPEG or something upload friendly? even a good ol fashin PICT would be better

Oh, and roguelazer - can you take a screenshot in vendetta, then using an external screenshot program, and post the two so that we can compare them?

Hmmm... why doesn't my copy of Photoshop 6 open or recognize TGA images?

/me sighs.
