Beacons

Jun 02, 2003 Chaos link
Ok here's an idea.

Each player gets one beacon, it can only be seen by your team, and you can place it ne where and it stays there for as long as you want it to, but if you want to change the location of this beacon, you have to go and pic it up and place it some where else.

What do you think of that?

If this does go ahead, will we be able to bind a key to lock onto the nearst beacon not matter how far it is away.

Ooooh! Lots of opportunity to log on as a character for another nationality and mess with their beacons by dropping your own.

Could this beacon be seen only from a range of 3k on your radar or would it be seen from anywhere in the sector like gates and stations?
The beacon would have to have some physical presence so would be able to be picked up on radar when opponents got close enough. How would you make it invisible to other teams?

Perhaps it could just be a personal beacon that only you could see so it helps you with a difficult gate.
How about it being something you could configure to your ships Large Weapon Port, so you could use it only when needed.

Another point, I think the prospect of perhaps having 3500 permanent Blue Nation beacons in one sector may be a bit much for the server.

I think the ability to mark locations in our own nav computer would be better.

- it can be seen from any distance like non-secret gates.

- it's not a physical object in space, an can only be seen by you.

And if we could buy some nav computer info at some space stations would be cool too... like a few $k and you could buy the nav computer data to get to some secret warps.... yeah.. that would be cool.
