So we have to decipher it like this?

waylonics-waylonish-???

MUST I remind you ppl that the kana-symbols only transliterate to roman lettering, and not translate to english words?

A1k0n, we are assuming that this sign (www.starfreeze.com/waylonics/2.png) is your "sanbar. First at ship repairs" sign.

From there we are making progress.

Originally, we were working from 1.png which I thought read, "Welcome".

I still think 1.png is welcome. It is the first sign you see if you enter 9 from 5. Then, it is over the nearest docking bay to that point. It MUST mean something!

Rogue: a1k0n says that it does not say welcome. our Sanbar sign is indeed correct. And. Tempest has identified another sign as advertising "Sake"

Haha, this is so much freaking fun.

No english. It's going to be what players are calling Waylonics.

Rogue, none of your translations make sense.

=/

I still think the tall vertical one on the central antenna of s9 means welcome. The flashing sun one is for sunflares. And the two in front of the s7 tunnel means warning/caution.

And IMO the lettering is based on the number of syllables.

So basically, the vendetta universe is supposed to be non-english right?

They make perfect sense, they're billboards!

Wow, you guys are making good progress. You've made a few major mistakes, though (and a few minor ones). Most notably, you've misidentified two glyphs as "cheap", and the letter "e".

I'll give you one other hint. The grammatical structure isn't the same as we use in English (or most other languages.) Most notably, the subject-verb-object order is rearranged, but there are other things that got switched around too. Also, you may have figured this out, but many of the signs aren't complete sentences (just like in modern advertising.)

That's it for now.... I'm really impressed with the progress you've made, and I'm excited to see how much more you can figure out on your own!

So Vlad, when will the Waylonism bible come out in Waylonics? Something like that would be very helpful. (full sentences with enough words to check lettering against other words)
:P

The "e" is wrong? Oopsie...

In other news, the Waylonics (Patent Not Pending) forum is open at http://www.roguelazer.com/phpbb2/index.php Enjoy!

Heh. The thing is, since there are no Waylonics English words for reference, it'll be impossible to identify the phoenetic alphabet exactly. The character that looks like O with a / through it may not be E, but as long as it's a vowel there'll be no way to find out which one. You could swap around all consonants and vowels and it wouldn't really matter. So we'd have to publish a pronunciation guide.

The other characters might be possible to deduce from context, though. I gave out a head start with those from what I could remember.

I think we found out about the grammer early on. I think i was the one to point out something along the lines of "That cant be right, unless the super smart races of space have crappy grammer"
Nov 03, 2003 hydrocarbon link
Urza :

What makes you think that just because they have advanced technology the races of space are smart? Witness the internet - it's reduced much of english to a collection of gibbering. LOL, WTF, OMG, ... then theres the horror that is 1337.
Nov 03, 2003 Magus link
Yep, while the internet has enhanced our ability to aquire, transmit, and assimilate information, it has reduced the linguistic (and especially the writing) abilities of the masses into incoherent babble, needless abbreviations and socially acceptable mispellings (teh).

But usin's Usin still da goodish grammers junks.
