What is it about artists and not wanting to OSS the models and levels?

Heres a somewhat alternative thought for OpenSourcing Vendetta and still keeping the devs in charge.
Maybe the devs could expand and more programmers/artists/whatever could be brought in to help work. (I'm thinking the way sourceforge works, since i use it myself.) The actual GAME source could be opened up so development could continue, etc. But, the devs could keep the SERVER for themselves and continue to maintain that without having other programmers messing with it. This way the devs could still keep control over the game.
Granted this isn't the most "open" way of doing open-source, but it would be a way for the devs to keep control. Just a thought that popped into my mind.

Hmmm, but most of the interesting stuff is going on in the server (the game itself, the units, the stats, the sector.. well, just about anything). Buuut opening the client could make people help making it work beter (especialy on mac and linux), and maybe even port it to more platforms... or write cool stuff like bots etc...

If there are any holes in the game, they'd be exploited to no end...and Guild would have no way to *force* people to get off the cheating-friendly clients.
