Luis' Art Assets

May 24, 2018 A-Dawg link
Remember Luis the old artist? He seemingly did a lot of artwork for GS. He had plenty of finished and unfinished designs that were at least in the greybox stage or further. If I remember correctly, this new version of the Vulture is based on his original vision, and his finished designs can still be seen as the Raptor, Terradon, Constellation, etc....

Are the unfinished assets and IP owned by Guild Software, or by Luis? Or does Luis retain the rights to the unfinished work himself? If his IP is owned by GS, could Luis' work perhaps be modified like how the vulture was changed by Curt to add more/revamp existing assets to the game? Would this be too intensive than starting from scratch?

You do great work, by the way, Curt. Just wondering from a logistical standpoint whether or not Luis' old assets would be beneficial to GS in the future.

As Luis was employed by GSW while he made these assets, they are the intellectual property of GSW. My understanding is that Incarnate provided a great deal of mentorship and still had to heavily modify Luis' designs in order to get them to comply with VO standards. I suspect that we have already seen the assets that are less intensive than starting from scratch. Incarnate is no fool: if there were low hanging fruit to be released, he would have done so already.

Yeah, we own the IP, but Luis's work tended to require a lot of additional finishing time. Most of his content is kind of dated at this point, anyway.

The Curt+Luis Vulture actually had a lot of work done to it.

Anyway, we are still targeting more scalable scenarios, like better utilization of the "Livery" overlay system, etc. And some ships are still going to be completely redone.
