VR for WMR?

Dec 07, 2018 JazzyJet link
Hello I played this game some years ago and always really enjoyed it. I recently got a Windows mixed reality headset and I'd love to be able to play Vendetta with it. Is there a way? I have the samsung Odyssey not the Oculus Rift. I can't seem to figure it out.

Or will there be VR support for SteamVR when Vendetta comes to steam?

Thanks for the help!

So, someone recently mentioned in this thread that there may a way to run the Oculus Rift version on a Windows MR device. Apparently it involves the Revive app:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-play-oculus-rift-games-windows-mixed-reality

I have NO IDEA if that works with our game, at all.

We may eventually support Windows MR natively. In general, I don't make promises on this kind of stuff until I see it actually running in prototype form, and play it on the hardware myself.

The reason why I don't comment or confirm earlier, is simply that we've run into weird situations in the past (not with MR, but with past hardware), where there might be a driver bug, or some other serious issue that crops up, and impact us, but may not impact other games.

So, for the moment, the best I can tell you is "Maybe!".

VO Launches using Revive just fine from the Oculus store (once purchased), but due to my lack of decent PC gaming hardware, was a lot less "fluid" for me (AMD RX460 is not quite fast enough) when compared to my GearVR, hence my comment about needing a VR capable GFX card in the other thread.

I guess this is where a potential problem lies with native support also, the minimum specs for a lot of things that run on most WMR's are quite low when compared to what VO would need to actually run fluid. Making it clear to users that just because "other stuff" works OK is no guarantee that VO will run OK, is another story entirely. I mean, you can have flash banners, pop ups, "robot john" explain this and even have the download page make you agree to it, but you know what users are like Incarnate. We do not listen!

One good idea though, if you mind me being so bold, is to release something like "Vendetta Mark" on the various VR/WMR stores, and have this app judge if your system is VO ready (and if not maybe suggest products to help with upgrade, Amazon affiliate revenue anyone?) - Anyway this is going past the subject of the thread.

Does VO work using the above trick? Yes, yes it does. Whether it works well or not is another story, this really does depend on your system. A GTX 1050 or RX550 may run VO great on a PC, but on a headset? Nah, and this is very noticeable.

The graphics settings are completely exposed on the PC version. So, if you want to dial things down to GearVR level, it should be possible.

Assuming the DX11 driver, I would start by dropping it down to 2 lights, and turning off shadows, and see how that runs (using a single sector and location, looking at a lot of assets, and using /fps can help. Itan J11 is moderately heavy, and fairly chill). If it continues to be too slow, perhaps drop the Background detail. It'll be a real loss in VR though, where the background is highly visible.

Ok so I got Revive to work and Oculus to install. However I could only purchase Vendetta for Gear VR, and it won't show up in the Oculus software. And I can't find Vendetta online for Oculus Rift.

After running Vendetta Online [PC build] it shows in the Oculus menu, but not in Revive. Injection method for revive doesnt work with VO. I think you might have to walk us through the steps you got, Wind Employment. Or maybe i'm just dumb >.<

Yeah I'm pretty new at this kind of stuff. I've got the game to show up in Oculus but it won't show up in Revive. I've tried a few things but nothing worked yet.

Update: Well I never could get it to work through Revive and ended up giving up as the oculus software was causing trouble.

I will have to wait and hope it will work with Steam VR. Thanks for the help though guys.

Huh I do not know what I did special? I installed the apps and it worked. I have done some messing about in the past trying to get Riftcat working with my GearVR properly (I know it is different but it did make me mess around with some SDK options - it is all still installed) which I did manage to get working but the framerates were horrible on Wifi and at the time I had no long USB C cables to get it going wired so gave up on this experiment.

I have also had a DK2 connected at some point, but the VR test app failed my PC due to a lack of USB3 although my motherboard does have USB3, so not sure if installing all them apps in the past did something, but when I installed Revive I could use the Oculus store and launch VO no problem. I'm not really technical either apart from games so wouldn't know which bit did what either.

On further thought I did have to use some osig file which I had to put inside an app file to enable my GearVR to work with Riftcats old SDK (months ago I tried this), maybe this is the step you are missing and a step you actually cannot do as you do not have access to the hardware to get one. Oh well scratch that idea then! SteamVR support would be nice, as this stuff (mainly) seems to work out of the box on the https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Reality-Headset-Wireless-Controllers/dp/B0763N26PW

wait. bought from here?

Thats for the Go and GearVR. I cannot find a purchasable location for the Rift; could you either poke me a link at it or explain why I cannot install this game on my PC through the app?

I know Revive currently doesnt allow you to see library options not installed in the standard location even if they appear in the oculus library; did you install a copy of VO somewhere specific other than its default [program files (x86)] location?

I suspect this: I tried VO already a long time ago on an actual rift but I have also played about on a GearVR as mentioned with older Riftcat and the old SDK that didn't use steam or Facebook. I cannot remember the tutorial I followed, but even if I could I doubt it would work for you as you don't have any oculus devices. probably need that signed file to access the store!
