Quick Port question

Aug 09, 2019 702smurphy link
I’m new to the game and doing mining missions. It gave me a mining laser and mining beam so I can scan rocks and then mine them. But my ship, the ec-89, appears to only have one small port. Do I need to get a new ship to put both on? Or am I just not seeing the second small port on my ship.

There tutorial should have come with a written copy, in addition to any audio.

I speak and understand English thanks. I’m not talking about the tutorial. I started a mining mission where I have to collect x amount of ore. I need to be able to scan the rock for the certain ore, so I was asking if the starter ship only has one small port. And if it does, what’s my best step to get a ship that can fit two small ports.

The EC-89 has only one port.

The mining tutorial at a mining station will give you mining level 1, and then you can buy a large port mining beam, which is better for mining with.

There are a number of ships with a small port for the scanner, and a large port for the mining beam.

I suggest an atlas, rev, or mining warthog. Eventually you want to move up to a centaur, tung mining maud, or behemoth, because those have two large ports for more mining beams and more cargo space.

Roda, the tutorial uses small port mining beams, and you have to use the equipment it gives you.

You are given them one at a time, I thought, insinuating that you use the mineral scanner first, and then go out with the mining beam when it gives you that, smurphy. If you have trouble finding the asteroids you want to mine, try loading your ship with a CU or two of some cheap commodity, and use the inventory menu to jettison it. the floating cargo will appear on your radar, letting you find the asteroid you wish to mine when you come back with the mining beam.

alternatively, you can take one of the other missions; I reccomend the "Courier Needed" mission, which gives you Trade 1 pretty easily and thus unlocks the Revenant, which has two small ports and a large port [the "Rev" as Roda put it], but you don't NEED this ship to complete the mission. Swapping parts should be plenty fine on the EC-89.

It sounds like he skipped the mining tutorial and is doing other mining missions

The tutorial tries to spell it out. First go and scan x number of roids. Then go and mine x amount of any ore. There is no need to have both equipped at once to do the tutorial.

If he is doing the mining tutorial, and can indeed read (English), then there should not have been this problem.

But if he can not read (English), then not only will the tutorial not be sufficient, neither will this thread.
