Sector Races!

I propose a nations-wide race!

Rules:
1: No nation-specific ships! Only ships generally available may be used.
1a: Loadout is option and at the discretion of the contestant.
1b: The contestant must finish in the same ship-class as he or she began with.
1c: Minelaying equipment is permitted, but use of such at any point during the race will be interpretated as a hostile action towards co-contestants.
2: No firering on race-contestants! Hostile actions beyond ramming results in immediate forfeit.
2a: Attacks on defbots and robot-nation are to be avoided, but will not be penalized.
2b: Attacks on judges results in immediate forfeit, as do ramming and any other hostile action (verbal or physcial) at the discretion of the judge.
2c: Flag stealing during races are prohibited, and can result in eighter forfeit, or a stop-and-go penalty at the discretion of the nearest judge.
3: Checkpoints consists of a judge parked eighter near a station, or in relatively equal distance to all entrypoints.
3a: A checkpoint must be passed within 1k to be verified by the judge. A judge may rule that a contestant failed to comply with item 3, and request that the person performs a close fly-by.
4: The race-winner and runner-ups are judged by the time they enter the final sector.
4b: All checkpoints must be passed before entering the last sector, albeit in any order. Having missed a checkpoint when entering the final sector results in forfeit.
4c: "Entering" a sector consists of warping in through a wormhole, and as such, returning to the final sector due to a destroyed ship does not count.
5: Before the race, homesectors must be set to the initial sector.
5a: At no point in the race may a contestant use "/explode" or similar in order to return to the final sector prematurely. Also see item 4c.
6: Any player wanting to participate can request a minimal amount of cash to be used on a ship with engine and battery.
7: Betting-pools may be established freely, as long as the only value entering into these bets are in-game credits.
7a: Failure to comply with item 7 results in ban from any and all races held by the current race-officials.
8: Race officials are 1 primary leader and arbiter, and all judges, totalling a minumin of 2+checkpoints.
8a: Juristition to settle a matter is given to the nearest judge, or, in the case of checkpoints and starting sector, to the judge stationed in the sector.
8b: Any contestant may bring his case before the arbiter, at a cash cost of 10.000 credits.
8c: Latest date for complaints regarding race and any rulings is 24 RL-hours after the race has been declared complete.
9: Prizes are disclosed before the beginning of the race, and can include, but not limited to, cash credits and cargo.
9a: The aquisition of prizes and possible protection of such against other players lies solely with the winners when the prize has been delivered.

The race is to begin in Sector 14, with checkpoints in sectors 1,2 and 3.
Race date/time is open to suggestion, and we will need 4-6 judges (s14,1,2 and 3 and optionally 2 to race along).
Anyone game?

is that all?

@Technocrat
Feel free to make suggestions :)

2 issues have been brougth to my attention:

a: Sector loadtimes are bandwidth-dependant. There is no real way around this, but as a person with a rather limited connection I'm still up for it, even if I might loose. Just turn of bittorrent/eDonkey/Fasttrack/whatever, or throttle that service holding you back.

b: Wormhole placement. Apparently wormholes, or at least their exit-point, are random. This should matter little, as it is still of "equal chance" to all.

If need be, I have a small script to improve on linux-network, and similar things might be possible to find for Windows and Mac OS.X.

..and remember, being the first one into a sector might just mean that you are the first one into a barrage of defbots ;)

/me envisions a horde of itani racers jumping into sector 2 and stealing the flag on their way out, having just signed up for the race as a distraction.

can we make the checkpoints in 4,6 &12 instead. lol

Nice Idea, but these problems:

- People have different connections
- People use different ships
- People cheat
- How you going to check that everybody does not cheat

....the rest are very good ideas

I'll do a 1mill prize for it! If it's ok with you GThang

Guess I've better reply :)

When? When more people sign up - As for time of day, I'm guessing(!) late evening CET but I'll leave that one for further debate (- when we get closer to the actual race!)

@Stick:
Sweet!

@Draco:
Connections - Nothing I can do, perhaps except offering Guild to recode their network code ;) Honestly, this should matter little to the participants as its for fun, and not life or death.
Ships - Yes, but they all have access to the very same ships (see item 1 of the rules), so I cannot see how this should matter.
Cheating - I dont even know HOW to cheat, but I have always had the notion that anyone wanting to cheat are welcome to do so, as long as they accept that they are ruining it for themselves. I suggest in-race judges trying to keep an eye on things (skilled pilots), but any suggestions to help minimize cheating are welcome.

@Spellcast:
See item 2c :) - (but) I guess nothing is stopping Refuge-nation or the Serco's from doing the very same.

Finally, go spread the word ingame, IRL and on IRC! It cannot be true, that the vendetta-world consists of chickens? (heheh)
