Finished Video work

Mar 12, 2004 alienb1212 link
Here are the finished movies so far, I'm open (and hoping for) critique and comments, as well as more ideas for future videos.

Both of these are tours of the named sector, with GTS fonts, etc.

This is a random fight between Phoenix and I using busguns, my first finished video.

This is just a quick little clip I made to test the encoding software I have, figured I'd put it up anyways

This is just a little clip of the Itani Nation Flag, it loops (almost) perfectly.

/me applauds

Once again, alien, I am entranced! This one gets it's own separate partition on my HD like the other one... :-D

It's in some wierd DivX or XviD that niether the OS X DivX or 3ivX codecs can decode correctly. However, mplayer (http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/) plays it fine, and mencoder (available at the same site) can convert them to another DivX format that the codecs can read. You DO have to know what you're doing when using mencoder, though... the interface is daunting.

I don't understand, if your system has the proper libraries to re-encode the video into something else, why doesnt your media player have them?
Mar 12, 2004 sinclair44 link
QuickTime doesn't have the right codec, but mplayer (on which mencoder is based) does. However, mplayer is too slow to get the audio and video in sync; QuickTime keeps them in sync by itself. Therefore, I use mencoder to convert it to something that QuickTime can use.

I suppose I should just render them in quicktime format for people that cant get that to work correctly...

"I suppose I should just render them in quicktime format for people that cant get that to work correctly..."

-It would be nice. But I really don't have any issues with MPlayer. But Quicktime is just so much more user friendly. And easier to stream too.

And BTW, I can't connect to the server.

I can't connect either.
I use VLC for .avi files (Mac). If they are not sync'ed properly, I use DivX Tool to re-sync the audio with the video.

Why not just re-encode them as mpgs and bypass the whole quicktime vs DivX problem?

did you take the site down for now, alienb?
cuz I can't get there

Videos now work, sorry for the downtime.

Er... Mencoder is not what mplayer is built on. Mencoder is a seperate entity which encodes video/audio streams, thus : M(player)encoder... Mplayer itself is a whole different beast; they are just part of the same project (mplayerhq.hu) since it was all developed together with the same goal in mind.
Mar 14, 2004 sinclair44 link
Exactly... they can decode the same media types. :) (EDIT: At least that's how the OS X version is set up; dunno about the original Linux one.)

Got them downloaded and they are great work, alienb! My only suggestions would be to pick music that has a short, fast section and show either some turboing through the roids or a short action scene with another pilot. As they are, they are exceptional. Very moving!

Thanks alienb. I especially enjoyed the busgun duel. that felt exciting!
