rewards for bot shooting, missions etc.

I feel your pain, as I played Rogue Spear "back in the day" on dialup, but in the same breath I must say that you need to get new equipment. It's like saying that new games discriminate against older video cards. Well, um, duh! The devs have been incredibly dedicated to making the Vendetta experience playable on dialup, and have had moderate success. To lose missions when you log is something everyone faces, not just dialup users. If I want to play another game, I'll probably quit Vendetta, even if I'm in windowed mode.

Online games in general (or at the very least, those with realtime play) discriminate against players with slower connections. Game developers can try to work around your crappy connection, or stuff as much data as possible over your crappy connection, but there's only so much they can do. The world eventually moves on from outdated technology, and the current generation of Action MMOs is a symptom of this movement.

Perhaps there should be a timeout on combat missions. If you don't get a hit scored on a bot for 30 minutes, for example, the mission would automatically abort.

well, it kinda sux to be on dial-up. believe me, i know how it feels.
well, my advice to those people with dial-up is: get high-speed. you profit alot from having it.
example: Vendetta runs better with less, and i mean less, lag.

[Edit]Oh yeah, even people who aren't on dial-up still loose their missions if they log, but you're right, they are less proned to log during the game. Or did I just miss the point again? Man I gotta stop posting these things early in the morning =P[/Edit]

The current implementation of the mission system discriminates people with dial-up connections. Suppose, for example, you take a combat mission. As soon, as you log off, the computer forgets about
that mission. This has the effect, that you have to start over again
until you get, again, many skill points for completing a round. Someone with flat-rate, who doesn`t use dial-up, usually doesn`t have to log at all. in fact, the one could just dock and put vendetta into the background and do whatever he likes to do without having to fear for his purse...

Unfortunately some of us are stuck with dial-up as we don't live in areas that can get broadband services except maybe ISDN which can't really be counted. I've still got quote a long time before my exchange finally gets upgraded so I can get ADSL. Short of buying a new house or getting a sattelite link-up for a stupid price (although cheaper than a new house) i'm stuck with dial-up and I expect quite a few out there playing this aren't expecting to get any broadband services in quite a while.

I wouldnt recommend you getting a satelite uplink to play online games. The latency involved with that sort of connection is simply to high to use for things where there is a need for the information to travel from the server to the client withing a small timeframe. Sadly, you have to wait until the broadand revolution gets to your house or until you move into another area. And I know, it sucks! :-P

Indeed, but I was referring to posts that recommended those on dial-up essentially 'keep up with the jones's', get themselves some form of broadband and stop whining. For some of us there simply are no possible broadband solutions, at least certainly not financially viable ones. I have never and would never consider a sattelite uplink ;)

I was playing on dial-up with absolutely no problems at all... until the update to 3.4. Now V literally chugs along in a most sporadic and laggy manner - it doesn't seem to matter how many players are on either !

Oh well time to call Freeserve

Even with broadband, sometimes the game completely lags me to death. I will either run into something, get shot by a bot, or get shot by a player.
