More comments on the last battle:

I was unaware of yoda attacking the defenders before they entered B8. By doing so yoda didn’t violate the rules, but he did violate the sprit of the rules. Next time the rules will be more specific to counteract anything he comes up with. :)

Borb was right. The Itani nation began planning as soon as the Battle was announced. We discussed strategy and had general defense/attack plan in place before the battle began. The Itani might have more numbers, but we didn’t win because of that. I feel we won because we organized in advance. I lead the Itani forces during the last battle and the Itani who served with me preformed with distinction. I was on Skype with 3 other people for the entire battle. Being in Skype during the battle gave us a significant advantage over the Serco and UIT. Since I had direct voice communications with most of the group leaders I didn’t have to type orders.

Each nation had an equal chance of winning the last battle. I posted to as many guild forums as I could and also told as many people as I could about the thread in these forums. Normally the Serco do have fewer players online. But that’s not all the players you have. The Serco need to organize and get the word out. As Bojan stated in another thread, “Although outnumbered, Serco fighters put up a fierce and brave fight.” If they organized better the might have won the battle.

I also offered money to any Itani that wanted to join the fight before the battle. I didn’t want players not joining because the couldn’t afford to fight. After the battle I gave 100k, the prize money, to every Itani who participated. Joyce Sanders (UIT) gave 100k to the participants in her nation, even though they didn’t win. Scince money is so easy to come by please don’t let that stop you from participating in the next battle.

You are all right the fight has to take place in grey space. I was unaware of the huge faction loss incurred killing someone with admired nation standings. And newbies should be killed in there home sectors.

How about something like this:
Combat will start when all ships reach the following locations:
UIT = Latos H-2, Serco = Ukari A-10 and Itani = Pelatus K-15

They cap ships will following locations until all the ships get in postiton:
UIT -- Azek I-16, Serco -- Initros O-12 and Itani -- Edras H-15

I’m working on Sun suggestion to have 2 cap ships spawned. Maybe spawn the cap ships 30min early. So we’ll use the first Itani ship and the second UIT and Serco ships for the battle. That way we won’t have to wait for the Itani ship before starting the battle.

I’m also thinking anout changing the rules for nation vs nation only combat. That way if UIT or Itani (traitors :) players want to help the serco they can.

I'm still working on rules but keep making sugestions.

I could say that I am getting tired to hear the same issues getting blown out of proportions. Ay the serco did deliver a good fight.

But the point was that even although they deliverred a good fight, we can't win if

1) our ship issues on a roid
2) people (aka the itani) tell us to jump into the sector and frigging do it fast while there ship wasn't even in it damaging the protaris and the zelor in the process.
3) we get outnumbered 2 vs 1 (which makes at least the half of the itani nation fighters able to do repairs).
4) skype is overrated, give instructions early on and trust in your subcommanders. They only need to type some words fast (which is easilly doable when you got killed or are one of the repairers). Still if you want to do the effort of using skype etc, then do so I am not going to bother.
5) I'm whining because we lost :D

PS: to say it for real, I found the capshipbattle boring and practically unfun, but that is prolly only me. But I won't join in the next time.

Btw this kind of posts do not encourage players to even numbers imho.

For those who did not participate: preparing the battle was fun, the battle itself was great fun! This is my first time in VO battles that we had a military-like organisation and flight schedule and action looked like "real" combat. I remember discussing one day flight formations with Starfisher and I thought that this was not compatible with VO's battles, that would always immediately break down to 1vs1. I was wrong. I kept the wing of Bluelaser's aggresso bomber until the middle of our attack against the UIT ship, covering him until action became really messy with Shape on our tail and we had to engage in a dogfight. That was one of my best moments ever in VO :D

I spoke to Sherpa in game and he's going to see if he can spawn 2 sets of Cap ships. He'll get back to me soon.

Final instructions will be posted on Thursday. Keep making suggestions.

The actual combat was about as exciting as dodging roids, except the roids were the homers which EVERYONE brought to the battle. Hell, the most exciting thing that happened to me was ramming some poor sods crappy homers into the itani friggy. Three times. Big whoop.

The sheer massivness of the battle, however, had a bit of appeal.

Edit: You feel you won because you were more organised? How the hell do you manage that?!
Shit man, you couldn't even get your damn ship there on time. Both the UIT and the Serco ships were practically dead by the time you got there!

LOL tram I don't think anyone expected you to.

On rene's point, I guess the combat is more fun if you win. I would not have been happy warping in and instantly being in a 3-v-1 combat, unable to even get my bearings before being pounced upon. Should be somewhat MORE fun this time, since last week was basically a dry run. Now that we've all been through it once, we have a better feel for things.

The fun of this is finding ways to come up with unorthodox tactics and see if they work out. Think of it as practice for killing the new Leviathian bots.

There will be an Ultimate Capital Ship Battle (2) Saturday, May 7, 2005, at 7pm GMT. Use Daylight Saving Time (where applicable) to translate the time.

Thats:
12pm PST (GMT-7)(San Francisco, USA)
3pm EDT (GMT -4)(New York, USA)
7PM GMT (GMT) (Casablanca, Morocco)
8pm IST (GMT +1 (Dublin, Ireland)
9pm CEST (GMT +2) (Paris, France)
4am (GMT +9) (Tokyo, Japan)

Final Guidelines/Rules

1. All players should defend their own nation's capital ships. But, you are not required to defend your nation’s cap ship though. If you want to, you can help another nation (traitors :)

2. Combat will start in grey space when all ships reach the following locations:
UIT = Latos H-2, Serco = Ukari A-10 and Itani = Pelatus K-15

3. You should defend your ship and if necessary heal it on the journey. Watch out for pirates though. And remember the severe penalty for killing an admired player in nation space.

4. Any player attacking a cap ship OR its defenders before the battle will be KOS for all nations.

5. NO WINGBUGGING

6. Chanel 205 will be used event communications.
a. One player from each group should report their Cap ship’s location on 205. They should post at least the following location information:
1) when you leave your capital system
2) when you enter Grey Space
b. If anyone attacks your cap ship, please post their name on 205

7. The ship that stays alive the longest is the winner, in or out of Sedina B8. . The winners receive 2 Million credits. Each nation needs to pick a leader before the event and message me their name. I’ll give the 2 million to the leader of the winning nation and they can distribute the money to their players. And of course you’ll have bragging rights.

Estimated Time Line (All times in GMT)

6:20pm Cap Ships Will be spawned
ONLY THE ITANI SHIP WILL BE USED FOR THE BATTLE

7:00pm Cap Ships Will be spawned again
ONLY THE ONLY THE UIT AND SERCO SHIPS WILL BE USED
FOR THE BATTLE

7:15pm The cap ships will wait at the following locations until all the ships get in postiton:
UIT -- Azek I-16, Serco -- Initros O-12 and Itani -- Edras H-15

7:30pm All ships will jump to the following locations and the battle will start:
UIT = Latos H-2, Serco = Ukari A-10 and Itani = Pelatus K-15

Note: Since the first set of UIT ans Serco cap ships won’t be used for the battle feel free to kill them before 3:00pm. If the ships are not destroyed before 3:00om I’ll ask Sherpa to send in some bots to finish the job.

The pirate community wanted me to make sure to warn you about them. Pirates will probably not attack any Cap Ship or defenders escorting their cap ships in nation space. But they might attack players while they aren’t with their cap ships. Like when they go to re-arm.

I can’t be more serious about the threat they pose. Please be vigilant in defending your Cap ships and home close just in case they get you.

And if you are attacked before the battle please let me know on Chan 205. I'll try to get Sherpa to warp them in to a black hole or something. :)

NO attacks of any kind will be permitted before the battle starts. If anyone attacks another nation in any way I will disqualify that nation/player. You should stay out of other nation space just to be sure. NO CHEATING AT ALL.

I would like to make this as fair as possible for all nations. So just follow the rules and wait till the battle begins before attacking.

I hope that’s clear to all.

Jestatis, what if mr_spuck attacks the UIT capship? Or if Shape attacks the Serco one? What happens then? Whom do we penalize?

During the last battle everyone followed the rules and I fully expect that the rules will be followed this time. My previous post was just a friendly warning to all sides.

If anyone attacks your cap ship before the battle starts, please let me know on Chan 205 or PM me. I’ll ask Sherpa to warp them somewhere safe and make them temp KOS with that nation.

BTW, Please heal your cap ship as much as you can when you get into position. There should be at least a 15min gap before the battle starts. I’m going to try and start the battle at or as close to 7:30pm GMT as possible though.
