Leaving VO for third and final time... sadly:/

Sep 18, 2005 DIGITAL SHARK link
I joined VO comunity in jan 2003, when the game had 9 sectors, when bus duels were fun and Icarus was hunting down newbies just cause you were supposed to be griefed a little as a newbie. Met some great people had some fun, till griefing escalated to the point that I left. Getting shot right out of station doors again and again was just not my idea of fun.

Came back lured by hope that the griefing could have been cut down a bit by new rules. Enjoyed those new sectors (famous sector 17:) and ships, new weapons, and engines (yes there was a time where you could put engine of your choice and pair it with battery of your choice) new stations and the hidden areas (any1 remember trying to get to sec 18 the first time? and than the pain of getting there 2nd time without any help:), seeing the frigate first time with all its firepower was a memory I will never forget:) Chasing and helping shooting down Roqueleezer running with the flag, mining stations to prevent steeling the flag, and running through asteroid holes filed with mines just to watch those spectacular fireworks:) Ah, memories...

Soon again VO was floded with high school kids with greater reflexes than mine, with greater experience and speed... They flew better, they shot better, they had no respect for anything than their own skills. Griefed, killed, hunted on so many ocassions, I gave up again.

So, here I am returning for the third time... My nation wins the war in which I helped a bit, coming to collect the win, boom! shot donw. 8 members of my nation hanging in that sector for reward, yet those "aces" from opposite nation who just lost don't touch them. They have to repair their ego shooting down some1 with lev 3 license, with no chance against their skills, superior ships and weapons...Not like doing it once is enough, I had to be griefed twice, must have been some real "egos" that got bruised tonight by that loss.

This is why VO comunitty been loosing players and this is also a reason why VO will never have a large payed player base. Who wants to pay for a chance to be a meat target for those who can take you down cause they just "feel" like, anytime they see you? Using superior weapons and ships available at their combat and weapon levels... Superior skills as well I dont downgrade them here, but being a skilled prick doesn't make you less of a prick...

I know, I can read already people telling me to get out of the sector if I dont want to be griefed... well, thats not helping much when the worm hole is camped by "ego bruised" asshats. I should stay away from that sector althogether if I can't take some prick down myself, or just jump to another... sure, yes those are instruments but not to prevent griefing. They make you feel like a little rabbit running into your hole. Now who would want to pay a monthly fe for that?

The problem is not griefers, there will always be some when you create a universe when some1 can hit you almost everywhere. The problem for me always been with the ability that this game gives to griefers, especially now with level locked weapons and ships. How do you expect a new player with not much experience or skills to stand a chance against some1 with 100 player kills, lev 9+ of combat and weapon skills in game? Perhaps some high school, quick, bright kid can. Unfortunately lots of us can't.

And since the devs didnt think of simply locking the chance of an attack on some1 who is lower level skills than you (combat skills at least), hence they create that universe where instead of having fun and at least try your chances fighting players with similar equipment, you get shot down within 10 sec because the other player got not only "ubar" skills but also equipment far more superior than yours... If I lost to a player flying a ship at least similar with fire power to mine, I know I sucked and I go on to another duel for practice. But when some1 brings the big guns to a fight backed up by his superior skills and shoots you again and again... Where is the logic? Where is the fun? I am not going to pay for other people to make a makery of me and an easy target practice for laughs. It simply creates a comunity where only the hardcore players live through endless leveling to finally get their hands on equipment that will even their chances of survival in game to only the skills which would make it at least a fair fight within some limits.

I will never be as good as most of you guys, to play and not to fear or get angry from griefing. But I think there should be a place in this game for those who are not the best, who are slower and less skilled than most of you. And I don't think that instant running from better equipped players is the perfect solution for those who are less skilled without a chance of even using better equipment. This is a way to create victims and promote griefing. Not to mention the feeling of crap you get when some1 runs you donw with a tach valk and all you can use to defend yourself are some pibi guns that take 20 min to kill a bot your level...

Have fun all of you who decide to play and who find it fun. I simply don't see the rules of the game fair and I am too old to lose my nerf because some 13 year old kid find it funny to ruin my fun using unfair gameplay.

I never contributed much to that game, yet for few moments I really had fun playing. That fun was always ruined by players who simply play by the rules of the game. And no matter which way you look at it when acces to equipment and weapons is level locked so should be pvp. To at least have a decency to keep it even a bit fair..

So long, and good bye. I am not coming back the 4th time. VO will not miss me, but I will miss VO... Too bad, it could have been a really great game.

Um...okay...

I don't think that most people have your problem. Many people complain that it's *too* easy to run away from a fight.

There are some flaws in your "protest" (?):

1: If a player has better skills and better equipment, he/she SHOULD beat you. Would you rather there be a large luck factor involved? That would definitely do more harm than good to the player base

2: If you don't have enough licenses, then level up. Lvl 3 is definitely not going to win many pvp fights. Border Patrol missions easily allow complete n00bs get equipment a month earlier than they should.

Overall, if you're not good at a game, don't blame the system.

PS: I hope that the Player owned cap-ships bring more straetgy to the game.

It most likely will be a great game. Sorry your experiences weren't what you were expecting. The funny thing about your post though... is almost everyone has access to the big guns right now due to a levelling exploit known as BP. So chances are, you were getting beat by skilless noobs who managed to level to 12 combat in three days. Regardless, sounds like your bitter about getting beat in pvp all the time. Why not check in in a while after the economics system is in place and see if life as a trader is more suited to your personality?

Oh well... I, for instance, like to get into the dangerous universe, full of evil pirates waiting for my cargo, aggresive roids and market crashes just before I wanted to sell my stockpiled goods. I like the thrill that it brings. Some kind of a nostalgic feeling of an oldschool space opera. I'm not much into PvP, but certainly enjoy the VO world as it is now...

There is more to VO then combat, and there are ways to avoid combat till you are better at it.

Why don't you just train?
/msg me in game and I'll give you some tips to beat any level 9 100pk 13 year old teenie bopper.

But don't get all bitter about it.
Pick URSELF up.

Yeah, don't be hatin'

Find a mentor, digishark... It's not all reflexes there are certain setups/maneuvers that work well against others. I'd be happy to show you a few if you send me a message in game. Anyone can improve.

Also... combat level 3 might be a little green to start PvPing... so there's no need to get overly frustrated if you find yourself dying a lot, much of the better equipment needed for pvp doesn't become available until combat 4, 5, or even 8. I don't think theres any MMO out there where you can just waltz into the "arena" and take on high level players when you've only been playing a week yourself. Vendetta at least gives you a chance, but there is a difference between a level 8 loadout and a level 3 loadout.

christ, i'm sick of you people who feel the need to make a speech about why you completely suck, just go crawl into a hole somewhere and spare us your drama.

"Hello all, I am leaving vendetta because <insert load of bull> and also because <some crap about the past when the game was very 1 dimensional>"

sigh
