well, I think this little thread has gone about as far as it can go.
Leber.. thank you for your participation, as you surmised progress has been made on the serco backstory, and while not everyone who was posting in this thread has access to it, those of us who did were able to use it to fairly effectively (or at least consistently) counter a good percentage of your arguments.
Things you brought up will allow us to fill in a few minor inconsistancies, and we've got some direction to head in for the parts that are still "coming soon(tm)"

I think its the UIT who are harbouring the Akanese. Without the Akanese the war that has made the UIT so enourmousley wealthy would have come to an end with the crushing defeat of the Itani.
The Itani didn't have weaponry of any real power when The Order of Akan attacked the Serco but UIT did. The UIT not only gave the Akanese a place to hide but also provided them with weapons to retrofit to their ships.
The Itani populace would never stand to have the warlike Akanese among them unless it's a dire emergency. The UIT however don't care, if it helps their profit margins their all for it whatever the cost to others. When the Serco asked to look through UIT space the UIT said no way and the Serco had no choise but to leave because without the UIT the Serco woulden't have the Xrite to make ships to wage war or defend themselfs agenst the Akan.
All that being said how about a recap from a more meutral piont of view.
When the Itani left Terra 2 they were at war with the Serco, and they had stareted the war according to Itani history.
The serco didn't know anything new about the Itani when they discovered the Itani recon ship. They thought they captured Spies from a nation that started a war with them 1000 years ago. They had no way to know about Eo or the changes that took place in the Itani culture.
The Itani craft they found was well more advanced than anything they had so they conjoured up the best they had; 15 Nighthawks and tried to find where this ship had come from.
Here's where things really began to unravle. When the Abbot told the Serco that the Itani were a peaceful people the Serco probably thought it was a trick, one designed to get them to lower their gaurd becaue the Itani attacked Serco civilians so savagley a millenium ago. As I pointed out earlier the serco didn't know about the cultural changes that had occured in the Itani, so they saw that as an attempt at setting up an attack.
The Itani tried their best to convince the Serco that they were now a peaceful folk, but without more than words from an old adversary their words fell on deaf ears. The Itani probably fearing that they would spark a war if they continued the conversation decided to withdraw.
In a culture like the Serco, Turning your back on somone shows extreme disrespect. The serco, not wanting to appear weak to their enemys of old fired some warning shots at the abbots ship.
Exactley what happenes next we may never know, but my guess is the Abbot got scared and used his enrgy focus to protect his ship. The serco not being able to see the EF sheild persued the fleeing monstrosity and one of the serco ships hit the EF and bley up. The Serco, who probably saw this as some type of advanced weapon, then felt they HAD to show they weren't weak and decided to destroy the abbots ship. The rest is history.

for the record after the itani were neutralized we focused almost all of our energy on adapting to our planet, a situation you neutrals were quite happy to reap the rewards of. Its not our fault you decided that biomods weren't for you and fell prey to some petty criminals who made your life miserable, then refused to let serco police be stationed in your towns to help defend your citizens.
If any of you had half a brain you'd have noticed how illogical it would be for a "bunch of idiots with guns" to have no military technology worth mentioning when the itani attacked us. We had to dig nighthawk fighters out of meusems in order to try to track down the source of the intrusion to our space... hardly the mark of a culture focused entirely on war.
While our people do value tests of skill and strength in personal combat, and it was a mark of honor to be a contestent in the arena, that hardly makes us warlike.

As spellcast said, we chose to stay on Terra II because we were prepared to work hard for our well-being. We did not flee, but instead confronted the problems at hand.
We invested in terraforming and crop-enhancing technology, rather than mining and spacefaring, knowing full well that we would have to make do with the resources allotted to us.
As for bio-engineering and cyborgisation, I can't help but notice the thinly-veiled envy showing in your speech. We do not flaunt our enhancements, we wear them as parts of our bodies, hardly even aware of them. Whereas you seem to consider them to be strange devices and probably think of them as 'magic', wanting to possess such advanced technology yourself.
