Game: Mine Darts
Number of Players: At least 3
Ship Layouts: Warthog suggested. The weapon(s) to be used have yet to be determined.
Rules:
1) Participants will be partnered up with a mine layer depending on their Nation.
• Itani will target mines laid by Joyce Sanders.
• UIT will target those laid by Miharu.
• Serco will target mines laid by either Joyce Sanders or Miharu, whomever they are randomly paired with.
2) Participants are not permitted to fire upon any other participant OR the mine layers.
• Failure to comply with this rule will cause you to be disqualified from the event.
3) Participants will not fire on their target mine until the mine layer has cleared them to do so.
• The mine layer will tell the participant when to shoot via Group Chat.
• Failure to comply with this rule will cause you to be disqualified from the event.

Procedure: The particpants will be paired up with their mine layer according to Rule 1. The mine layers will then create groups and invite those participants who have been assigned to them. YOU MUST BE IN THE GROUP TO PARTICIPATE.

After the groups are ready, the mine layers will each select a location (be it an empty sector or far away from the station) and lead their group there.

Once at the location, the mine layer will move to 200m from the first person on the group list and lay a mine. When the mine layer has moved far enough away from the mine, they will signal the participant to fire.

The participant may take as much preparation time as they wish, and then fire ONLY one shot. If the participant misses, they are disqualified. (Note that if all participants miss during the first round, another round is taken at the same distance.)

The mine layer repeats the process with each member of the group. If you are disqualified, at the end of the round, leave the shooting area and return to the station. When all participants have gone, the mine layer starts again from the top of the list, only this time moving a further 200m from the participant. Runoffs will be played at 600m between remaining participants in order to come up with a single winner for the group.

Winners of the group subdivisions will then face off in a final round until a single winner is determined. The other participant will be awarded Second Place.

Game: Bus Demolition Derby
Number of Players: As many as possible
Ship Layouts: Stock EC-88. No mods allowed.
Rules:
1) Players will be paired off randomly such that they are able to damage the other.
2) Participants are not allowed to fire their weapons, so we recommend you remove them from your ship.
• Failure to comply with this rule will cause you to be removed from the event.

Procedure: On the mark of the event coordinator, pilots will attempt to destroy their partner by ramming them. The last bus standing (or to blow up in the case of mutual kills) will be slotted for a second round with another pilot.

The above procedure will be repeated until there are two pilots left. Should it be necessary at any time that two pilots who cannot normally damage each other be placed together, said pilots will use the /duel commands to enable friendly fire.

The last pilot standing (or to die) wins.

Game: Capture the Samoflange
Number of Players: 4 to 14.
Ship Layouts: Any layout.
Rules:
1) Players will be slotted into teams such that they are able to attack all players of the other group.
• If this proves impossible, two rounds will be played with smaller groups.
• Groups will have a minimum of two (2) participants and one (1) observer to a maximum of seven (7) participants and one (1) observer for a total of three (3) to eight (8) members.
• Group observers will create the groups.
2) One team will be homed in Odia K-12. The other will be homed in M-14.
• Participants are not allowed to home in the station of the other team. Failure to comply will result in a disqualification of the round.
3) No player may approach the Samoflange until the GM has cleared the area and officially started the game.
• Failure to comply will result in a reset of the round.
4) Participants are required to state when they have picked up or dropped the Samoflange crate over group chat.
• Failure to do so will result in a disqualification of the round should a player that has not reported in deliver the Samoflange.
• Supplying false information will not be tolerated. If you do not have the Samoflange, do not tell the group leader you do.
5) For each successful delivery of the Samoflange crate, the appropriate team will be awarded one point.
• To count as a delivery, the person with the Samoflange must come within 20 meters of the observer and jettison the crate so that the observer can verify it.
• The first team to three (3) points wins the game.

Procedure: After being sorted into their groups and homing at their group's station, the groups (sans the observers, who will wait at the groups' respective home stations) and the GM (a guide or other third-party) will move into Odia L-13 or another neutral sector, preferably with asteroids.

When all players are 1000 or more meters from the GM (who will stop somewhere in the middle of an asteroid field), the GM will release one (1) Samoflange crate. The GM will be given time to move away from the crate. When the GM is ready, they will broadcast to the sector the signal to start. ANY MOVEMENT TOWARDS THE SAMOFLANGE BEFORE THE GM'S SIGNAL WILL RESULT IN A RESET OF THE ROUND.

After the starting signal, the groups will try to carry the samoflange widget back to their station. If the widget times out for some reason, the round is reset and another widget will be released in the manner described above.

To count as a delivery, the person with the Samoflange must come within 20 meters of the observer and jettison the crate so that the observer can verify it. The observers will be stationed outside the stations next to the docking bay most directly in line with the warp-in point from L-13. Combat within the NFZ is allowed as long as the observer is not killed.

As a prize, the members of the first group to three (3) points will be given a crate of Samoflange to keep.

maybe you should do vulture derbies :D, because of th ewingbug it won't take frigging forever :D
Oct 23, 2005 Beolach link
Heh. Actually, the times I've tried Vulture demo derbies, they've taken a looooong time too. What I'd say is do bus demo derbies, and before starting pop each participating bus with a megaposi a couple times.

Hehe I like Beo's ides: "Time to take yer purple medicine!"
POW! POW!

OK now you can go smash each other up...

This all sounds like big fun, hope I can make it...

It would be a good idea to weaken the buses. Miharu and Joyce cna see to that, to avoid anyone else getting overzealous on the job.

Also, what about the other day's weapons trial for the mine darting, Celkan? Are we going to go with those, or try some more?

{EDIT} Oh, and would people prefer a riddling contest, or a joke contest?
Oct 29, 2005 fooz2916 link
*BUMP*

I would have completely forgotten about this if Celkan's post on the Deneb Run hadn't reminded me.

It's 2AM GMT right?
Oct 29, 2005 Celkan link
Yes. 2AM GMT, 10PM EDT, and 7PM PDT.

We will be using CHARGE CANNONS for the Mine Darts Activity.
Oct 30, 2005 LeberMac link
Charge cannons are goofy. Many of us could NOT hit the mines at 590m, since the dead-still range of the charged cannon is around 565m. You had to be moving to give it a chance to hit the target, but since this was darts, you couldn't move past the line...

Ug. Best part of the WHOLE event was my Screwball-shaped pizza in the after-party.
Sorry about the oven, Miharu, thought that was the stove, it burned nicely tho...

One:

Those people who don't get it was just for fun and can't stop being competitive are either total losers or whiny Itani, or both.

Two:

That said, we did neglect to test the weapon with different SHIPS; we used Warthogs throughout all weapon tests. In hindsight, we should have asked all players to use hogs, but we really didn't know a ship's size mattered; we really really thought that the only thing that matters is HOW YOU USE IT.

Three:

Even with [name withheld so FM won't edit, but y'all know who I'm talking about] spouting BS on the comm and griefing people, and with all the chaos some others kids (who eat too much sugar, IMNSHO) also were raising, I had a lot of fun; it was a blast, if you ask me.

Four:

Only regret is all that wasted time getting n00bs and trolls to behave prevented us from playing CTS.

Five:

All events will have undergone revision next time we put them out to play.

Six:

Thanks to all who participated and came to join the silly fun. Except for [that other He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named], of course :P

Seven:

LeberMac, the check for fire damages is in the mail, and you can also expect to hear from Corvus Hold's lawyers. Arson inside a space station is a capital offense punishable by jettisoning.

Oh I had lotsa FUN, no problems there. Great event! Just pointing out that, um, the weapon needs to be changed for the mine darts thingy. (Or the distances decreased). I still don't understand that if you HAVE to be sitting dead-still to play the game, how Martin or ANYONE was able to hit anything past 570 m with charged cannons. Perhaps some further explanation is required. And you're right I'm waaaaay too competitive.

Yes, there were two problem people who ruined a WHOLE buncha stuff that night (and one who was annoying during the Deneb run), who apparently existed to make events last longer and to ruin the fun for others. I'll be hunting those people during the coming week.

And I said I would take care of the damages. Sorry...

1) I agree, if you can't hit a mine at the upper limit of the weapon's actual range, then that is neither our problem nor yours. It is simply a matter of rarely-used skill—if you can't hit the mine, that's not a problem! Almost 95% of the time you won't have to be shooting a mine from about 600 meters away. Those of you who are complaining about not being able to move around, I don't see ANYWHERE in the rules where it says you can't strafe or roll when you fire to help you hit it. You were allowed to move around, just not towards the mine. That being said, I managed to hit at about 600m by strafing up slightly as I fired. Most of the participants (I think) were from the USA. Where's your Yankee Ingenuity™?

2) If you check the rules for the Mine Darts game it DOES say "Warthog recommended," people. If you can't read (or can't be bothered to like HWMNBN) that is not our problem.

3) Agreed. It was a lot of fun, and in hindsight I think one of us should have pressured a guide into hanging around. I got maybes from both Sherpa and RelayeR, but next time we need a Yes. I still think the best activity was the One That Was Not Planned, AKA Griefback Fest. >:)

4) Most certainly agreed. People need to read the rules for the games before we start. We spent too much time teaching people the rules of the games to actually get anything done.

5) I'm working on the revisions right now.

6) I think what we'll do is hold the individual activities on seperate weekends next time. This way we'll have the time needed to pull stuff like this off.

7) Next time one of the bartenders gives you an order, "Put down that knife" or "Get out from behind the bar, only staff are allowed back here" for example, follow it. I don't want to have to prematurely disqualify anyone from the next event.
