What a joke. This is the bullshit that I hope doesn't continue to escalate with the influx of more and more players... ala Eve.

SCAR continues to be the joke of the universe.

The Serco do nothing to help their underpopulation at all with stunts like this.

There's always a lot of bitching and moaning about there never being any Serco, and then some of you pull shit like this and still wonder why there are no Serco. I'll tell you flat-out why this is:

Not everyone wants to be associated with this kind of behavior.

Some of you talk about the 'glory' and 'honor' of the old SCAR. Clearly your definitions of glory and honor are flawed, because judging from the reactions here, as well as common sense, your actions were anything but.

I'm in agreement with Gavan here. With this kind of crap going on SCAR is nothing more than a joke. I sincerely hope Sheffield is able to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future, because there's a very long way to go to fix the damage that has been done today.

And as ironic, stupid and fucked-up as it may seem, coming from me in particular, I actually am looking forward to the CNN writeup on this. All the normal trashtalking might actually be merited this time around.

"Please note that swarms and Lmines are banned from NWs due to lag problems, but that the latter are under review."

Lmines are under review?

There's a possibility Lmines will become a legalized weapon in future Nation Wars?

I think that SCAR was only trying to encourage Serco players to stick to it, that was it. I'm not taking sides, it was stupid, but it was not a bad attempt to try that. I do feel bad for all of those hard working players who work to do Nation War.

As for Itan teaching their new members to backroll and run, I only do it cuz i hate having to spend so much money for one ship and it's load. I apologize to my guild for its "bad name" now, but I do it for myself. I use to donate at least 1mil credits to it per month.

hehe, come here, little green man, let me show you my new PvP skills, mwa ha ha!

I personally support SCAR's actions 100%. Bravo to those with enough courage to stand up and do what they believe needs to be done. You have my respect.

Keep in mind that many of the people here only stand to lose when SCAR comes into power. Note the number of Itani condemning your actions. Do not let them fool you, they *want* you to be seen as weak.

Glory to the Dominion!
Jun 16, 2008 Papa Mojo link
If the Serco Dominion had glory, they could have won the NW fair and square.

I'd be curious to see what SCAR's response would be if Serco had been winning the NW, and then four members of ITAN did the same actions. Would they be considered glorious, or cowardly?

I'd love to hear how former Serco NW winners would feel.

OOC: You know, on other boards I frequent and talk about VO, I mention that I'm an Itani, and I usually mention that if players would like to try the game out, that they should try Serco, as the player numbers are low, and there is great potential to build the faction. I'm not too sure I'll be doing that in the future, if this is the type of activity the main Serco guilds condone.
Jun 16, 2008 smittens link
Obviously these are only 4 players, and judging by the reactions of Shef and Vehement they are in the minority for the red thinking that they're badass/awesome/whatever?

Which is good, plenty of serco are honorable nice guys.

But this is what stands out, and just saying "It's fine this time, please don't do it again" doesn't distance the rest of you from these punks.

Shef, you still completely have the chance to set up the spartan/samurai/knight-in-space guild image. But not if you tolerate actions such as these. Show the community your disapproval, and then we'll believe it.

This stunt was pulled by your LT and 3 council, the supposed "leaders" of your guild. Unless you want to send the message that this is how SCAR rolls, I think you have a pretty clear course of action.

[edit] And regarding Naut's comments...

Like slime said, Itan does no such thing (do we even have official, regulated training sessions yet?), but feel free to keep making up stuff in a weak attempt to slander us. Such an over the top level of maturity just stuns the community! (And here I am commenting on someone else being a baby! Hahahaha, *zing!*)

Plus, if you really want to compare lame fighting tactics...

You guys had Cunjo as an LT and in your guild for an ungodly amount of time.

'Nuff said.

I hate to be the tattle tail, but SCAR have actually been planning something like this for ages. Oh and ITAN do encourage their NW group members to run away or backroll.

Which is the less of the two evils? I hate to side with the Itani (no, I really do!) but being evasive isn't against the nation war rules, every time I have been on the red team for nation war and they have suggested this *plan* - I have objected strongly, and I'm a pirate!

And smittens, I think you actually have to be an active player to be able to comment? As you suck more than any SCAR, including Cunjo, I really think your point is moot.:P
Jun 17, 2008 Sraer link
Actually, we tell each other "group", but not like the ones we're already in, but like group up. It ends up being one person engaging by his/herself anyway, until someone gets in to cover fire, when the person who first engaged can decide whether to backroll and leave or stay and help fight.
Jun 17, 2008 Aramarth link
Since I've already weighed in on the main topic, I'm going to weigh in on another.

Actually, 'running for excessive distances' is against the rules. I'd like to see it actually enforced. Somewhere along the line somebody on the blue team decided that running for more than 3k meters is okay if you do it in a circle instead of in a straight line.

This may come as a shock, but you've heard it here first ITAN: in a Valk there is no difference if you're doing a circle or a straight line. Nothing can catch you either way.

This is what makes the wars long, and creates problems for everyone. If no one used their turbo to flee, Nation Wars would be over in a very short amount of time. No one would have any excuse to say 'I have to leave soon' and bitch about when we start. It is further why I made such a severe anti-running rule in my tournament. A couple people pushed it last time- it will not happen again.

I will say this, for any of you who think you're a sight better than me in NWs- the only time I use turbo is to close with my next target or back up an ally. If you can't say this, you are a runner end of discussion. Hold yourself to a higher standard, and respect will follow.

Y'all know I'm the most offended by SCAR of anyone wearing red. But that doesn't change even slightly how low of an opinion I have of all the NW runners.
Jun 17, 2008 Sraer link
Now I'm sick, absolutely sick.

Just because someone is running doesn't mean they are a coward, and yes, it shouldn't happen anyway, but it can be a strategic move to get your enemy in a tight spot you and he can't maneuver well, but you can maneuver better than he can. I do that, like fly right up to an asteroid, sit and wait until the enemy catches up, and do some sort of swift turn that sends him ramming into the asteroid.

No one understands anything anymore...

Aramarth,

Specific ships have specific advantages. Ships such as the Prometheus aren't too agile but have a lot of armor and firepower, so they work very well when clumped in a group, each one guarding another.
Ships such as the Valkyrie, on the other hand, have the clear advantage when it comes to speed and acceleration. You are suggesting pilots ignore this fact and pretend Valkyries are not capable of avoiding getting hit by boosting, which would cripple Valkyries and reward ships like the Prometheus.

In events such as the Nation War where every last health point counts, disallowing a valid tactic which uses a few ships' strengths would only be harmful.

Sorry about that Krag, I was trying to keep my distance but they'd always be heading my way no matter what, and that ec wasn't fast enough...

BIG changes in sercoland already happening.
Jun 17, 2008 Kragmier link
I don't have much time to reply at the moment, but I would like to point out how the Itani always try to justify their crappy behavior by trying to squeeze it to be inside the rules. Running outside the fighting area is against the rules. The complaint is that you turbo thousands and thousands of meters away, then fly around in big circles so that no one can catch you. Its bullshit, and you know it. As usual, though, you work hard to justify it. Then you condemn the Serco when they break the rules, and justify it because they blatantly broke them, while you just skirt them.
Jun 17, 2008 slime73 link
I was not debating whether running outside the asteroid field is against the rules. Running inside the asteroid field however, is completely valid. On top of that, if, for example, I were attacking Mick, and one of my groupmembers was getting ganged by a few people and asked for help, should I boost away from Mick and go help him at the risk of being called a runner, or continue fighting Mick and let my groupmember die? From Mick's point of view, it's very hard to tell if I'm simply running away or attacking another player.

You could also be talking about players running when they are the last person (or close to it) on their team.
That is also completely valid. If done right, you can maneuver your enemies so that they are spread apart, making it easier to pick them off instead of facing them all at once.
I almost won a Nation War by doing this. I was below 20% and had 3 people on me. At the end, it was just me and one other person. A stray shot of theirs took me out because I wasn't moving around enough.

As someone directly involved in the event I figured it was time I chimed in.

First to SCAR, I don't believe you are the first people I've seen disrupt a NW and I'm sure you won't be the last.

Of course it angered us, me especially as I got chewed from 80% to about 15% by Mike-L, but look what happened I think you got what you wanted everyone from pirates to TGFT to ITAN all talking about SCAR. Good/Bad publicity that is for each to decide on their own. Does anyone think that if they had interrupted a group of people killing the Levi they would have gotten as much attention? No! Image wise it may have hurt them a little but maybe they want to be bad boys/girls. All told we will remember it for quite a while.

Secondly, I as a member of ITAN can say, personally, I have only ever left the roid ring in persuit of someone who is trying to stay alive. My tactics, as well as many of those I have seen consists of a few quick bursts on one target who is otherwise engaged then moving on to the next one trying to keep myself from getting caught up in a dogfight where someone can sneak up behind me (Mike-L :)) yes I admit it probably does look like I'm running away from you but if you have ever fought me ANYWHERE else you know I don't run.

Basically its perspective, the Serco bring their proms chew you up and spit you out (this is also where Krag and his death taur sit) they dont have the luxury of being able to quickly engage/disengage at will and will likely view people zipping around as runners. The Itani bring their Valks, like wasps we may only sting you once but we sting everyone once and with 10 of us doing it your still going to die. Everyone else fits somewhere in between the two and that is what makes the NW fun in my opinion because you have to be able to adapt quickly.

To SCAR, I hope to see you in the NW again I can see this event has taken a toll on you from loseing Keria and Vehement but I am sure you didn't come to this decision lightly probably fully knowing what might happen and that took guts.
