Unsual Bot Activity LIVE ACTION EVENT Saturday 2300

12»
Nov 05, 2010 Obsidian link
There have been reports of unusual bot activity in Edras. An investigation is being coordinated, so scouts and defenders will be needed to help locate and neutralize any hive threats. Go to Edras B-11 shortly before the event begins and report in to chat channel 600 for more information.

The event is expected to last for 1 to 2 hours as the bots are investigated.

Prizes will be awarded for the top bot exterminators and everyone who signs up and participates will receive a special participation token.

Rules:
1. No weapon/ship restrictions.
2. You may return to the event if you die.
3. To register, you must be in Edras B-11 within 15 minutes of the beginning of the event and say "register me" in chat channel 600.
4. You must register to have your bot kills count and be eligible for prizes.
5. Anyone can participate, as long as you register.
6. Bot kills will only be counted in sectors designated at the time of the event.
7. Awards will be given when the event completes and you must be logged in to receive your award.
8. Event moderators have final authority and may ban anyone who disrupts the event.

This event is the first of a series of events that will be played out in the coming months.

and may ban anyone who disrupts the event

Excuse me? I'm sure you didn't just say you're making certain players in certain sectors of Edras off-limits to the rest of us, because that would be a number of words I'll refrain from putting on the forums.

I'm sure you must have meant "ban from receiving credit/awards for the event, etc."

I kinda have to agree with lecter here. I have no intention of disrupting the event. but it is not being held in the sun sectors like the CTF events are. So you are effectively forcing people to meta-game if they want to play along.

Actually, it's entirely possible Obs just meant that violations of the rules would result in no event-driven awards being given, which is how she used to run the mining events.

But the wording was too unclear for me to let it pass. And unlike Pey, I have every intention of celebrating Obs' return in the old style.

Hopefully we wouldn't resort to banning anyone, but if we did, it'd only be for the duration of the event.
The event is supposed to be fun for everyone and if someone stops making it fun for everyone else, the disruptor would be asked to do something else. If they continually cause problems, then the measures could be more drastic.

I wrote the rules and I tend to be more heavy-handed.

Players will most likely not accidentally run into the event, as it will take place in multiple locations not on direct transportation routes.

Peytros, I'm not sure what you mean by forcing people to meta-game.

Metagaming in general is behaving differently in character because of things you know out of character. Of course, I don't think we have any hardcore enough role players for that to be much of an issue in the context of this kind of event.

It would also be metagaming to use knowledge of this event, which is inherently at least a bit out of character to disrupt said event.

Ray, you seem a little confused about how your own game is supposed to work. Why don't you ask Obs how the mining events were run - strangely, those running them managed to keep them fun for all -- including those who log into VO to shoot other people -- without pissing off a bunch of your more dedicated customers.

But hey, you wave that heavy hand around however you see fit.

With a background in customer service I have a different approach to difficult individuals than Raybondo.

Maybe there should be a role for the "Bot Collaborators"...

+1 to DivisionByZero

Also, sounds fun... I'll try and check it out.

Thanks to all who registered for the event (35 players registered) and participated. We were able to exterminate the hive. However we did discover some unusual structures in Edras and who where the NPCs that came in to defend the hive?

Thanks for all the fun, Obsidian and raybondo! I can't wait for the next chapter to begin.

M-12 had a ring of xith roids like a levi sector, and the scaffolding was certainly large enough. However, it was rather squarish, so I wonder if it's actually a levi they were building, or if it's something else.

Also, when we discovered these structures, there were a bunch of collectors shooting a bluish "mining beam" at them, presumably constructing the scaffolding.

Man, that sounds promissing...

I blame my gov for DST making me confuse the event time!

anyway, congratulations for making a FUN event.

Maybe this could make hosting easier...

it was very fun for me, i'd like it will became a weekly event, it was also great players participation. It would be much great if you can insert a leviatan in future.
thanks

plant had fun shooting Rin from the trident!!

And Rin thought it was a dev and complained on 100 "Hey, did I shoot somebody?"

Rin sort of seemed to forget what his guild-tag meant :P
