~The Death of the Innocent; Paid with Blood and Fear~

_________________________________________

This is a guild I wanted to get started for quite some time. I've played this game off and on and found my place as a pirate hunter. With the decline of VPR before i even started to play this game, the time for an organization like this is not only welcomed, but I believe needed. The main combat areas of the game are delegated to some national guilds and the various pirate entities. Now more than ever do the skies need guardians above.

I will need those to join the council and get the actual guild started. Hopefully this sounds fun for you! I hope this will bring fresh, new life to the world of VO.

Below is somewhat long overview of the guild, what it will hopefully come to be, and what it entails. The little rules, or "creed", i've called it, will be fleshed out soon enough, but hopefully do not entail to much. You will understand what i mean by that if you skim over below.

Anyways, I look forward to starting this up with those who wish to give this VO life a go.

----------Upon enough posts, of those interested, we can schedule a time for everyone to get on and get the charter fully created. Its hard to get these kind of guilds started, and the way i want the guild structured makes it wholesomely less organized. -----------

DISCLAIMER TO PIRATE GUILDS: I really hope you guys look forward to some welcomed combat and fresh air to greyspace!

__________________________________________

Specter[--], is an organization of assassins dedicated to the sole purpose of providing guardianship to all of the galaxy-- created in the name of Anti-Piracy and to bring vengeance to any bloodshed of the innocent. Specter works as an entity to provide security and safety to all pilots who solicit our aid, with the hopes of protecting the people, and allowing those we protect to flourish. It is our duty to protect; our only true destination to die in glorious combat.

Specter is structured upon a wider breadth than just simply an Anti-Pirate guild. This organization will work to provide escort, secure pilots in their travels and dealings, and to avenge and war against those proven to have thrust evil upon the skies.

As well as providing protection in the skies, Specter relies upon death. It is in death that the true learning of combat prowess can be gained; in this regard, the pilots of Specter are sworn to a debt of violence-- they shall never fight dishonrly and always welcome combat and bloodshed. It is the life one must live to provide protection to those who cannot take this same course of life.

This guild will work not only as agents of vengeance, but also as neutral bodies in all conflicts taking place. Our members can join on any side of any conflict if the powers at be wish of services; so as long as they maintain strict occordance with sparing the lives of the innocent. This entails a free-will political alignment of our pilots, may they wish to chose different sides and fight amongst their brothers and sisters is entirely their choosing; it is in fact welcomed, for greater mastery of combat prowess.

The leadership of this organization is a non-sequitor; The place of leadership is of nonsense to this group. Specter works as an egalitarian political body, and the only rule in place is to uphold the tenets of the creed all pilots are sworn to upon joining. All members are only bound to maintain the creed and act in goodwill to all people, everything else is of their own accord.

Our work is never done for profit, and solely shall rely upon donations from those who wish to give. It is our hope to be active agents of death across the galaxy; and the guardians of those who cannot fight themselves.

This occupation relies upon those who wish to uphold the creed; and to live a life that aims to create the greatest of combatants, and use these skills to further protect the skies from the transgressions of evil.

All pilots are welcomed to take up the creed, and solemly give their life to it. We do not seek the greatest of pilots, in fact it is welcomed to be of hardly any combat skill. We seek to continually improve through combat, and to never reach a true mastery is mastery in its own right. We will be feared with this charge alone-- this philosophy i hope can garner the greatest pilots in the galaxy someday.

The Creed of Specter~

:1: One shall protect all in the sky, as long as they maintain to not have shed innocent blood.

:2: To die is the true goal, and in this way violence and combat is the norm. A Specter pilot shall never leave from a fight, or use dishonorable means to elicit a kill.

:3: All members are of their own accordance; there will never be power delegated over one another. All pilots are free agents, only bound by the tenets of the creed.

:4: By means of democratic voice, the group shall claim organizations that are targeted by our means. This must be chosen by a majority, and after such will deem the group an enemy to the skies, and to be eradicated.

:5: Pilots may work with any group so as long as the voice of the members have not deemed the group heinous in their ways. There can be exceptions, if the group deems necessary. Specter pilots will never work with those deemed to have shed innocent blood, unless for specific circumstances.

:6: All monetary gains is made through donations; unless a pilot otherwise wishes to do buisness and enact a contract with a third party, as is their own will. If there is to be such an agreement, a Specter pilot shall not work with those who have been deemed guilty and deserving of death.

:7: if any specter pilot goes against these tenets, they will be shunned from the group, and KOS as long as they remain in VO.

:8: If any third party wishes to use Specters services, they must maintain accordance with non agression in systems of Specter presence. Any heinous acts will terminate any contract and as such elicit KOS designation.

:9: This is just a game. Have fun.

:10: Smoke weed errday.

These tenets are set in stone. They regulate the little rules that this group will have.

Safe Skies~

Time has been set around Thursday, 4pm if there is enough people wanting to sign up. If you wish to keep annoymity be on around that time and message Revenant_ . Thank you to all and I look forward to flying beside you.

heh.

You should list a time zone for other pilots, btw

Also, "Thursday 4pm" in what timezone? My Thursday 4pm is about 15 hrs earlier than most. Giving a time in UTC would be best, IMO.

Hey folks, upon faille's note i realized how rediculous that 4pm designation sounded! I'd like to apologise, havnt had much sleep lately.

But i should be on sometime within the next 48 hrs, mostly around 4-10pm pacific standard time. Im gunna keep trying for a week or so to get the charter setup.

And so far theres an actual 2 legit members that are setup for council, with a lot of other people saying they are into the idea and look forward to it, but this has just been from messages to me when im online dickin around greyspace trying to die :x

Hopefully i find enough people to get the actual guild chartered up!

5 members and counting. Thank you to those of you that continue to support us in our efforts, by joining or otherwise, as well as those that have so willingly engaged us as combatants, openly and honorably. We look forward to much more!

Learn from the mistakes of VPR. VPR is great in theory, but flawed in practice. Pirates exist to kill non-paying players and their primary target are traders who want to avoid dying.

The measure of success of a pirate is their ability to kill or extort traders.

The measure of success of an anti-pirate guild is to disrupt piracy.

As an anti-pirate, the tools available to you are limited to actually impact piracy. Pirates fly interceptor class ships like the Valk, SVG, or greyhound. Catching one of these ships is almost impossible. The only real effect of an anti-pirate in sector with a pirate is that the pirate is less patient with traders and will shoot faster when they might otherwise wait for payment.

Couple this with the fact that while difficult to be profitable as a pirate, there is at least an income stream. There is no income stream with anti-piracy. So you will be at a disadvantage to pirates who make credits extorting other players and you will either need to establish an income stream from player transactions where you charge for support, player donations when they appreciate your efforts, or you will need to spend time trading. If you spend your time trading, you become just another trader who is a target for pirates.

There were numerous times where pirates were killing traders but VPR was off in nation space trading. This did not do wonders for the reputation of VPR.

The only current method of disrupting piracy is to goad the pirate into dueling you repeatedly away from primary travel lanes and any good pirate is going to be too smart to fall for that if they are serious about their profession.

Thank you for the insight, we will be sure to keep these factors in mind.

So Savet, to truly impact piracy an anti-pirate guild could be a player escort guild?

Then the guild would have to focus on getting escortees out alive, rather than blindly engaging potental hostiles.

Anyways, good luck with your new vigilante guild, Specters.

Replying to your post Savet,

This is first and foremost why i established the autonomy of pilots. The way anti piracy was done before was an organization acting as one united body, and ensuring 'they' were the one thing stopping pirates. This is an issue when you still see pirates, and so you would think if you do have a run in with a rat "well that guild wasnt able to save me, so much for those anti pirates!".

Acting as autonomous units under one overreaching callsign manuevors around this issue. This guild isnt just the same as an anti pirate guild, it acts as just guardians of whatever you are needing. This normally implies anti piracy, but also can work as escorting, simple policing of systems, negotiators, etc. A great metaphor would be looking at the example of EMS. EMS will try to repair you when they can, but tjey dont act solely as the one force to give you space repairs all the time. In a way this is kind of the stance Specter takes, as none of our pilots are tasked with any overarching objectives or operations unless it organically becomes constructed.

In specter nobody is tasked with always hunting pirates, always escorting whoever. Instead, pilots with the guild sign by their name will be known /to do/ those tasks, and either can offer aid or be asked to, or simply log on to run to a greyspace system and try to make sure it is open and safe. Or log on and do pve shit like solo queening. Whatever they want to do (as long as it fufills the rules set).

The ability to be autonomous also allows for these type of srrvices to benefit the pilots who actually do the effort for escorting or what have you. You dont need to ask the entire guild to offer an escort services, you can just see if any are online and ask if you want a service done. And i mean, this is for long, long contracts, like hours of trading (which is why its called a contract, its more than just helping out for a bit to make sure you get somewhere). This ensures that a pilot who does this doesnt have to throw the revenue gained in a guild bank or has to represent the orginization as a whole all the time, otherwise it would create the type of mandated orgonization like vpr, that have success and failure on each time they attempt to do what they say they do.

The success of our guild is having people know that the tag [--] represents an agent of safety and guardianship, that if you want some extra safety you can ask if one of our pilots are on, whwn you see one in greyspace you have a little more assurance. This is a constsntly worked upon objective.

One example of a service is just simply a jump scout, which doesnt even really apply to a combat type of service (and is something that is normally not done as a type of service for anyone really right now).

Jump scouting is simply taking a light, agile ship and scouting a jump or so ahead of where someone wants to fly. This ensures some level of security, especially if youre flying something expensive, under the radar.

Things like this arent often done eith the normal playerbase who otherwise go alone and hope not to find a rat (or just take credits along to pay as they go). Simple services like this dont even require much effort or cordination, but can exponentially increase traffic in grey systems, which is better for /all/, including the pirate guilds!

A operating service system like this coupled with autonomy and decentrapized group role ensures that this group isnt placed in the 'successful or failed' anti pirate guilds.

This is why i made the guild out as a group of 'guardians', but i made the post title about anti pirates. This hasnt really been done before, so the 'anti pirate' part gets people interested atleast to see, (or to try to watch it fail becayse most anti rat guilds go that route), then i explain the rest of it all and it really makes sense then.
Mar 04, 2017 ohshtwaddup link
Speaking in terms of the logistical side is really important here to flesh out the guild. This is not just a guild solely dedicated to fight pirates.

My hope is with this type of orginization a logistical entity is added to greyspace to influence traffic and population in the community. Even if the guild takes a loooooong time to even be at a capacity to be renowned at combat (something i dont expect anytime soon or reguard as being very integral to the success), atleast there is a legotimate body that can start to draw rhe playerbase out there to the grey systems.

Its my hope that this in turn can move some of the nonitored space playerbase (as called by some as carebears), and have them out where actual 'life' is, in thr grey systems, where a ton of the gamesnlarger profit gains and combat takes place. Something like jump scout services bridges that gap, where even if someone plays on their phone like once a week, hardly any combat skill, can actually do something very beneficial as an "escort", without solely having to have a prerequisite at good combat prowess.

At the same time the guilds also structured to ensure constant learning from all levels of skill spectrum, so its a very fluid, and mutable thing im wanting to do, with all kinds of intracacies and hopefully impacts to VO as a whole.

So Savet, to truly impact piracy an anti-pirate guild could be a player escort guild?

This is actually what VPR does: the most effective anti-pirate tool is also the least visible. Oh sure, once in a while there would be a furball, but firefights (unless related to station conquest) would most often be a red herring or wounded bird routine, or for kicks.

Savet's insight on revenue streams is apt.
Mar 04, 2017 ohshtwaddup link
I don't entirely believe your logic in that regard phaser light.

I do see your idea of the red herring concept, but at the same time not having a presence ensures the exact opposite agenda of what I believe an anti pirate guild is, which is to ensure those who fly know they are safe.

While being the least visible, it's almost as if you made the threat more visible. While that not be true in reality but perception, it creates an air of danger which decrease participation of players to risk it and go out to greyspace in general.
