Transcript of top secret transmission to Dau Executive:

--This is Sage of the Neutral Territories calling all Neutral Government agencies. Come in.

Dau: We read you Sage. What is it.

Sage: One of my men was doing a routine patrol in the anterior regions when I picked up a distress signal. You have to see it to believe it. I'm uploading the transmission now.

. . . the Hiv-. . . they're everywhere. . . invasion. . . warn eve-. . . . . . . .***transmission lost***
Dau: What's going on? Did he find a strike force? Is it the Serco?

Sage: I don't know what it is sir. We were able to get to the sector in time, but all we found was the wreckage of his ship, his body was gone, most likely vaporized by the decompression. The ship's video logs speak for themselves sir. Uploading now.

Dau Command: Oh my God.

Sage: I don't know what, or who those things are, but they aint friendly.

Dau Command: We need to call an emergency session of the senate. Meanwhile, mobilize the militia immediately. We'll need all the help we can get.

Orion_Prime:

I have also encountered these strang craft and have had a little time to observe them before being aggresively asked to leave the sector:

There seem to be three main ships in this "bugger" fleet: Observers, Assaults, and Hives.

Using this information and the general observtions of size and features of the Hive ship, I can only come to one conclusion: This is a new faction that is going to be asserting itself into our space.

My suggestion: Either leave them alone and maybe you can be their friend later, or destroy as many as possible and hope you thwart their efforts.

Personally, I'm a nice guy with entrepeneurial spirit, so I'm going to let them go about their business and maybe I'll beable to have some good business with them later.

If they are not interested in trade, then I'm sure the mighty Serco or Itani can take them out without much of a problem.

Leave them alone? I don't think you saw what happenned to my man's ship out there. These. . . things are not here to play nice. And I'll be damned if I let them get a foothold in Dau, our nation's capitol!

Haven't we Neutrals sufferred enough as it is? Relegated to the backwaters of the galaxy by the Serco and Itani? If we give another inch they'll take another star system.

I think you are over reacting.

Don't forget, the nuetral way of life is capitalizing on every possibl oppurtunity. Afterall, we are simply a mish-mashed collection of conglomerates out to do a little business.

If a whole new audience suddenly appears that is targetable, you better be damn sure we are goign to take our chance.

Don't forget, they could not have the sorts of thing that we take for granted. Not having these things means that they'll pay big bucks.

Do they have consumer electronics? Do they have precious metals? Do they have aerosol deodorant? We don't know, and we'll never find out if we just blast them to oblivian...

But imagine the profits once they are dead? ohh, the technology and items to reap from their burning hulls?

I don't care about the materialism of the masses. Over the millennia my family has dedicated itself to but one cause: the belief that the government shall be ruled by the people and not the dogma of some father-knows-best monatic theocracy nor the indoctrination of some propagandizing military junta. The Republican form of government is what me and my militia fight to protect. The Republican form of government is what allows you to accrue the wealth you so covet.
You all are have become so spellbound by the allure of money and power that you have forgotten what defines and binds us as a Union: freedom. The freedom to think for ourselves and judge the worth of our own lives rather than surrendering our fundamental liberties to another, be they a band of monks, a cadre of generals, or even a monopoly of corporate interests.

A nice little speech, truly worthy of praise, but it has no merit here.

We don't know these bugs are here to enslave us or even to have any contact with us whatsoever.

I mean sure, they attack you if you gt too close, but you would do the same if an unidentified ship came too close to you. Can they really be blamed for that?

Believe me when I say this: The principles I am trying to use here are the very same as the ones you fight to protect. Afterall, aren't they just as wrothy of the definition of "people" that we are? Obviously they are here, so what gives them no say in the government? If the government is truly run by the people, then they should have their say too.

The fact that you people seem to not understand this is common biggotry and has no place in our modern society.

Don't forget, the Nuetral Territories is somewhat of a repository of refugees from the Serco/Itani war. We are here to be accepting, not judgemental.

Therefore, I decree this: Let's atleast find out their intentions before we blow them away. If their construction projects begin to seriously infringe on our territories, then we will stop them before they can get too strong.

But, if they appear to be keeping to themsleves or even attempt peaceful communications, then we can have not only business partners, but life-long friends and allies to support us when the big governments try to overtake us.

Everyone needs a friends, ourselves included.

What sectors have these bugs been sighted in, anyway?

I've also heard that they've appeared in Itan. Odd that they'd show up in two unconnected systems at roughly the same time. Might they know of some wormholes that we don't? Or possibly an alltogeather new form of FTL travel?

The designs of their ships also provoke a few questions. There seem to be a lot of features on them that don't seem especially practical, particularily the "legs". I don't see why a spaceship could possibly need legs. Wheels and landing gear, maybe, if you intend to fly it down to the surface of a planet, but the legs just seem to be a waste. Does their insect-like configuration serve any useful purpose, or do their builders just have some sort if irrational fascination with beetles? I really hope that the latter isn't true. It's bad enough having one group of religious nutjobs within a few hops of the NT, we really don't need a second.

Accepting. There was more in that swarm than just the bugs. Didn't you see what was guarding it? Assault bots! Valent assauts, aputech guardians, and even some collectors.

Didn't you see the transmission antennae on these bug's heads? We have reason to believe that these things are what has been driving so many of the bots crazy. Valent robotics has reported that some of their renegade bots have even started manufacturing themselves.

Clearly these phenomena are not unconnected. These bugs are taking control of our robotic ships. There is even a chance that they are responsible for the rash of malfunctioning bots with the volatile chemical we have been seeing.
Oct 04, 2004 Drooling Iguana link
Then our first course of action should be to upgrade the encryption on the bots' control signals. Once we've got that under control, find and dismantle the renegade bots' manufacturing facilities. Destroy them if necessary, but only if necessary, since they'd likely have some valuble components that could be salvaged.

The matter of the buggers' transportations systems is still an issue, though. They've shown up in both Dau and Itan at pretty much the same time, and there's been no reported sightings in any other sector. Seeing as how Dau and Itan are pretty much as far away from each other as you can get, that makes one wonder how they managed to get their sizable fleets to both places at once. Either they managed to travel directly from one system to the other, which would imply that they've either found a heretofore unknown wormhole (not too unlikely, considering how long the second Sol II wormhole escaped our notice back when we were still on Terra II,) they have some other FTL drive technology that we don't know about (kinda far-fetched, but the possibilities that sort of thing presents are quite intriguing. Hell, we might even be able to re-establish contact with Earth with something like that,) or they were able to make the many wormhole jumps needed to travel between the systems without being detected, which would be very difficult, considering how frequently travelled wormhole sectors are, without some sort of stealth technology.

It also bothers me that the body of the patrol pilot was never found. It couldn't have been "vapourized" by the decompression. Explosive decompression would cause a great deal of internal damage to the pilot, as well as rupturing his lungs if he made the mistake of holding his breath, but the body itself would remain intact. It's more likely that his emergency teleport system kicked in, as it's designed to, but that it either malfunctioned or was intercepted, preventing him from re-materializing at his home station. Since there's evidence to suggest that the buggers may be interfering with our bot-control signals, it's not too far-fetched to assume that they also might be able to interfere with our transporter systems.

Thus, any pilot attempting to observe or make contact with the buggers should use extreme caution.

I was doing a sweep in the Itan system and I found a Hive Queen in sector K-16. There was only one of them, but it had heavy bot escort. Details in the "Bugs in Itan" thread.

And if anyone knows what sector the Dau buggers are hiding in, I'd greatly appreciate the info.

Anyone else get the suspicion that this might be an advanced new form of Guise?

EDIT: Found 'em. Sector F-9. Huge bot presence, too.
