Nintendo Revolution

May 17, 2005 UncleDave link
Excuse me, I'm still in a state of OMG.

Basic facts siphoned from the press conference + stuff:

1) The DS and Revolution will be online with a little help from Nintendo's new buddies GameSpy. 90% of DSs are expected to be online when its all up and running, and as for the Revolution; Smash Bros. Online. At launch.

2) The Revolution can download/play ANY game made for a Nintendo console EVER, and is immediately backwards compatible with the 'cube.

3) It looks sexy. Remember the Gamecube? Looks nothing like it.

4) The controllers are still secret. But it has been confirmed that they are at least wireless.

5) Mario 128 was a no-show. But apparently there are Mario and Zelda titles being headed up by Miyamoto-san for the Revolution, but that's no huge surprise. Metroid Prime 3, however, looks sweet.

I'd post pictures and links, but I'm bored. Its off IGN and other places, so I trust its all true. >_>

...Nintendo's new buddies GameSpy...

That reminded me of a recent PA comic strip. http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2005-05-13&res=l

Well, it costs $500. So sure, if you can afford that, go for it.

Chances are, if you can afford a PS3, you'll be getting the X360 and NRev. at some point in the future.

I'll leave the PS3 to the Squaresoft fans, the Revolution to the kiddies, and take that 360, thankyouverymuch.

it's not confermed it'll be $500 is it?

Sony has reported that it will cost under 40000 yen, about $370. There are also reports of 50000 yen, about $463.

Jexkerome, the PS2 had plenty of games, the GC had plenty of games, as did the xbox. I'd also point out that the xbox is coming out before the others, which has proved successful for Sega's dreamcast.

Plus, Nintendo usually has more *interesting*, *original* games. I'm sick of FPS after FPS, sports game after sports game. I don't even like sports games...

Doesn't help that I don't like FPS games and sports games. I like games that are like zelda, metroid, katamari damacy, final fantasy, mario, and fzero. I don't like RPG #349, FPS #1527, or some other unoriginal games. I applaud companies that don't use the cookie cutter and make something different, like katamari damacy. It's a risk that can turn out to be very good.

All a matter of taste, I guess. I don't find any of the *interesting**original* games mentioned by Tyrdium (most Nintendo) and Suicidal Lemming either interesting nor original. As for RPG#349, I tought that was the very definition of the FF series.

For the record, I also loathe sports games. Gimme RTS and FPS (Half Life 2 coming to Xbox oh baby oh yes!), and online games. That's why I prefer Xbox, even if it means I have to give my hard-eanred cash to Bill "All your Base are Belong to Us" Gates.

Personally I feel FF stopped being good after 7 and 9. 10 was okay, X-2 just sucked, as did 8.
