Favorite space combat games [besides VO]

Aug 20, 2017 buttcast69 link
Hey Folks,

Been a while. I stopped playing a while back 'cause I was looking for a game with a faster development pace and more combat. I tried elite dangerous and was impressed with the graphics but couldn't find a control scheme that worked for me--playing with flight assist was too simple and playing without flight assist was WAY too hard. IIRC the XYZ movement was easy to control, but aiming the ship was impossible for me to do without a lot of overcorrection. And there was little to no actual combat

VO's system of allowing FA-free positioning of the ship while also giving easy "mouselook" control over aiming was ideal for me.

Wondering if there's any games with similar controls and a solid incentive for combat.

Also a belated thanks to the SKV folks for showing me the ropes. And EP for hours of dueling.

Star Citizen in decoupled mode is the same flight model as VO without flight assist, but has more complexities.

Although, if you try it and say it's 'too hard' for you, I'll call you a noob. It feels intuitive to me after playing years of VO.

Waiting for star citizen, the ships look epic and the universe is huge. My current favorite space sims are:

Elite Dangerous
Interstellar pilot

Here's some screenshots of the sweet vulture skin I got for backing everspace:

Sadly, I am actually really terrible at everspace, so I haven't really gotten into it. I'll probably swing back around and give it another shot at some point.

Damn... that is sweet! Sadly, i wasnt around VO back when this occured.

As for everspace, I actually bought it the other night. Its nice, pretty, a little confusing, and downright difficult to use with a joystick. Well, its downright difficult no matter what. But its great fun to play when you dont wanna be online.

Overload: A new game on Steam, check out the free demo. It is basically Descent 2 with waaay better graphics, and they are adding multiplayer :)

another image of the backer skin - a freindly redditor gave me their's since they dont wanna play VO (which itself is sad).

So, uhh, its really nice - but its hard to see with lighter or darker colours, and near-impossible on mobile. but nice skin!

I played Elite Dangerous and Interstellar pilot. These ones have interesting game story. But, I prefer to play PC online games. My favorite ones are Mario, PES2016, Rich cars and others. I cannot say that console games are bad. But I do not have console, so I play PC games which I found on http://www.friv4online.com/ You can try to play them too.

So senako, are you saying that you play flash/html5 games shoddily put together by Indians overnight using canned studio apps? AND you prefer them to Elite Dangerous?

Oh my oh my what a good taste you have!

Elite Dangerous. VO with better ships.
