Well, OK. Not a ship, but still awesome. This is the latest addition to my Warhammer 40K orks...

and for those lacking imagination, here is the box art (mine will be red, of course, 'cos red ones go fasta)

I didn't paint that one Lux, that's the box art. Mine will be red (see text above box art pic).

You made this through 3D printing?

but the grey one is yours, right?

OH, you bought this as a premade and are going to paint it from there.

well, show us the finished produect when you finish! ^.^

@jj No, this is a model that comes as a kit. Its for wargaming (see the background in the first pic).

@Lux, nah, bought NIB and mostly assembled yesterday at the local GW store (got sick, hadda come home...). Got some kustomizin' to do here at home, then painting.

Once the jet and a few sundry models are done, I need to make a 2' x 2' display base for an upcoming painting comp called "Armies on Parade" Going for a post-apocalyptic/Mad Max feel, with a ruined elevated highway crossing a second, ground level ruined highway, in a desert wasteland. My army is a very "mekky" ork army (lots of vehicles and mecha), so a Mad Max theme fits well.

you better paint some sick flames on it!

make it go even fasta!

OK, sneak preview...

I have begun work on the display base. This is a mock-ups of the basic plan, to get some idea of where models will go, and how the base will be made. I'll be using the 2' x 2' base pictured, and making the elevated road from the foam pictured, but this is VERY early in the process...

I am not sure about model positions yet, other than that the MorkaNaut (big stompy mecha) and jet will be roughly where pictured, and that the light vehicles and wagon will be on the elevated road. There will be lots of wear and tear, old battle damage, etc added, as well as makeshift barricades and the like.

UPDATE:

So, the bulk of the work on the models is done, only really the jet to go, and maybe the Koptaz in front of it if I get time. On to the detailing of the base next. Here is where I am at so far:

Over-all shot (with flash, to get the underside of the overpass)

and some closer shots of a few units:

The "Motor Pool"

And the "Foot Sloggers"

Nice! Have you experimented with acetone on foam?

I've toyed with it in the past, but I'm not really a fan of the effect, at least for my orks. The results are a bit too "organic".
I do plan on hacking into the overpass supports and road itself, to add some battle damage, and some road blocks and a dead-end sign on the lower road, with an ork-made sign saying something like "Welkum to DeadEnd. Population: ORKZ".
Oh, also some partial/ruined buildings along the rear edge to add depth.

It is pretty organic. I like it for burned or acid effects.

Well, results are in. There were 4 categories, "Best Army" (best painted models), "Best Display Base", Best Themed" (tying army and base together in a thematic way), and "Best Monsters and Machines".

I won "Best Monsters and Machines", and one other entry won everything else, though I was apparently only 1 vote from tying for "Best Army".

The entry that won all the other categories was a Mars themed Adeptus Mechanicus army, and the base incorporated one of those funky plasma/lightning globe thingies. It was quite a show stealer, though I was surprised it also took "Best Army" given it had a lower standard of model painting than the other entries, to my eyes. Possibly the public disagreed, or possibly that guy had more friends he talked into coming in to vote. Regardless, in my opinion, it deserved Best Base, and maybe Best Themed (though I liked mine better, this one definitely was well themed). There was one other entry though that had genuinely stunningly painted models, and I was very surprised it didn't take the Best Army prize. Maybe the dark colours, low model count, or the rather simple base they were on cost it votes... who knows, the public are weird like that.

Anyhoo, I still won something, so I count it as a success. Next year I will start early, and really go to town. I'm thinking smoke/fog effects, flickering lighting, moving parts. I want to really steal the show next year. I will keep the post-apocalyptic/Mad-Max theme, but better!

How do you even find time for this hobby, faille??
Nov 08, 2017 Faille Corvelle link
I time-travel back in time a few hours each day, jj.

But really, its just a few hours every couple nights. It adds up.

jj, if you spend less time on VO forums, you'll find that the time gained will open up a world of opportunities to you
Nov 08, 2017 joylessjoker link
Darth, let's put it in perspective.

You spent more time in forums lately advertising your so called "repentant, reformed" TRI guild in a few days than how much time I spend in here in a few weeks. Talk about missed opportunties!
