my screen resolution question

Dec 31, 2004 danielky link
I don't like 800x600, since we all know it sucks. I would keep my computer at 1024x768, but it's too small for my dad to read without his glasses. On XP is there any way to make one user have a different resolution from the other without having to change back and forth from login to login?

Errr... Aren't the resolution settings per-user?

Edit: D'oh, they aren't. I found this thread over on Sudhian that may help, though.

thanks, that helps a lot. That program does work, others should use it.

I had the exact same problem "supporting" my mother as she moved from a several-years-old laptop (800 or 1024) to a brand new ThinkPad (some-ungodlyHUGE-resolution)..

somewhere in the Control Panel, you'll find a control marked "Text Scaling" ..maybe in Fonts/Colors or some-such place... I don't remember offhand, because I try to stay at least a few miles from the nearest XP machine :P

basically, you keep the screen res the same, but scale all text 1.5x - ~3x

That's definitely a better solution, but I'm not sure if it scales everything accordingly.

Display Properties -> Appearance -> Font size to "Large" or "Extra Large"

AND

Display Properties -> Appearance -> Effects -> Large Icons

Play with the stuff in the advanced button of that same tab if you want to resize indivual components. Then alter the firefox settings to use a larger font, since it doesn't always pay attention to the Windows setting.
