Same problem here, in northern europe..
its bad when you move out from a station and suddenly issue a big ship without reason... only to find you were lagged :-/

Recently (since 3.2.2) I have been experiencing 'hangs' in my connection, where for about 1 whole minute it seems as if I'm in control, but everyone else is drifting and all conversation stops. When it's over and everything snaps back into position my max ping is around 58000. This has made it totally unplayable, to the extent where, whenever I log on, after about 1 minute it starts. Has anyone else been having this problem?

Just now i tried to play Vendetta, and the lag was terible... avg ping was about 400-500 and the max was 59000 odd... Normally i don't have any problems whatsoever.... Probably just alot of net traffic at the moment...

Ephialtes/SirCamps: are you guys from the UK? Cause that's where my traceroutes go.

There's already many threads about lag issues. Please stop creating 90 trillion of 'em. They know.

I understood you just fine.

Try '/ping'

A somewhat out of date list of console commands is found here:

It sounds like you have a bad connection. The server bug in 3.2.2 has a very distinctive behavior. If you just have a bad ping I'm not sure what can be done about that except get a more game friendly ISP.

see guys? only 2 or 3 threads relating to lag were started by me! not all 6 or 7!

I have had "lag" stop and restart, move then jerk back and move again since before 3.22. This is the only game this happens on in any way shape or form.
This is also strange because my ping swings from less than 15 at one point to over 5000. It also seems to be sector dependent at times. I have tried several options except one. What is the domain/address etc of Vendetta so I can do a traceroute and see if I can see where it is. The way it is acting is almost like a latency buildup.

My computer is as follows.
AMD 2400 1.93GB Processor.
512 MB RAM
40GB Harddrive with 30GB empty
Windows 2K Tweaked
Nvidia Chipset 440MX 64 MB ram
Comcast Cablemodem - Internet Pro - 3.5MB Down 384 Up.

If this isnt Game friendly enough I don't know what is short of Alienware.

This from a1k0n on 5/5/03 in one of the MANY threads about lag:

"Ok. Yep, my optimization was missing a very important line of code. So I, er, optimized away certain packet retransmissions. Whoops. That's fixed now. I may restart the game server in a bit to alleviate many of these problems. The rest will be fixed once we patch the client on Wednesday.

It's funny, cause it didn't show in my testing with moderate packet loss and no packet loss, but with very light (i.e. typical) packet loss, the connection just goes away."

I notice that most of this is a month old. I have been experiencing really bad lag today in Sec 4. It's irritating and then a disaster, 'cause while "lagged" I can't do anything....then, when the lag "goes away," I'm suddenly in a position where I get killed by a bot instantly! No defence, no way to defend, no way out. This sucks!!!

Type /toggleframerate to see if it isn't just your frame rate being very low.
Jun 19, 2003 Arolte link
You're right, it does suck, RattMann. In fact for two days now I've died from at least five to seven bots due to some cable connection funkiness. I don't really disconnect, but my chat pauses for a long while and I can't jump wormholes or dock. And when I get my connection back all this chat rolls down the screen and an invisible bot kills me out of nowhere. It wouldn't be fair to make a lagging player invincible, since that was a problem in an earlier build of Vendetta, but it also kinda sucks how you die from something you never even saw before you lagged. Maybe some sort of defensive AI can take over when the server detects that no more packets are being received from that player or something.

My lag seems to work a little differently than thet...rather than just letting me get largely offset from the server I keep getting thrown back to where I was until it catches up, then I end up where I should be in one giant jump. The effect seems to be lessened when I increase my video options, which seems a bit odd to me, but its better than having to lower the video options. Mind you it doesn't eliminate the problem, only lessen it.
