Super Speed

May 09, 2003 Savane link
I was botting and suddenly lost control of my ship. I could not change speed, boost, fire or steer. After about a minute my speed increased to about 12500 and a little later increased to about 13300. I flew through the sector (uncontrolled) a few times going out to about 1000000m from the wormholes, zipping through to about the same distance on the other side.

I quit the app, waited a few minutes, reconnected and everything was back to normal and I was just over 400,000m from the wormholes.

Happened in Sector 6. I'm on a Mac with a cable connection.

It's been a long time since that happened.

Did you fill out a bug report?

I have now. I thought posting here was the bug report. Thanks.

The legendary hyperspace bug. The devs already know about it. It has happened to me at least four or five times since 3.1.x. But don't worry, don't /explode your ship or do anything stupid. Just /logoff and log back on and you should be fine. Assuming you weren't close to any bots or enemy ships at the time of hyperspace... at which point you'll most likely find yourself dead when you log back on.

How do you do this? I think it would be great for a good laugh :D

It just randomly occurs, and as far as I can tell there's no way to duplicate it. It may have something to do with the client and server going out of sync with each other. Other players will see a ghost version of your ship drifting in one direction, at the last known location before the bug. While the victim will see their own ship drift a million miles away from the center of the sector.

One time I saw a ghost player drift straight through the roids in sector 7. It was freaky. My lmines didn't even lock on.

I remember one time in 3.1 when this happened to Arolte and several of us were tracking his ghost ship. It turned out that we were tracking 3 or 4 different ghost Aroltes.

Yah, silicon crashed a sector, and broke the skybox area.
May 21, 2003 asphyxia link
he he lol, imagine that.. coming face to face with the skybox at high, high, HIGH speed =)
May 21, 2003 Arolte link
He created a hole in the skybox, causing the entire sector to deflate, thus collapsing the universe within a matter of seconds. It was horrible. Thankfully all the devs had to do was reset the sector. BAM! All fixed. Are they God? You could say so.

Forgive me for asking a stupid question, but if you were in a sector when the situation Arolte described happened, what would you see (up to and including the sector reset)?

Your connection has been terminated.

I guess...
